5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the |
---|
6 | 6 | | passing of Rita Lou McCreary on June 6, 2023, at the age of 88; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Maude and Oscar Green, Rita |
---|
8 | 8 | | McCreary was born on her family's farm in Fulton, Arkansas, on |
---|
9 | 9 | | February 15, 1935, and she grew up with the companionship of |
---|
10 | 10 | | seven siblings, Ronald, Inez, Farrell, Taylor, Sue, Janice, and |
---|
11 | 11 | | Dixie; after graduating from Hope High School, she attended |
---|
12 | 12 | | nursing school and became a nurse anesthetist; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. McCreary later began working at hospitals in |
---|
14 | 14 | | Dallas, during which time she met her future husband, Howell; the |
---|
15 | 15 | | couple went on to share a fulfilling marriage until Mr. McCreary's |
---|
16 | 16 | | passing in 1999; Mrs. McCreary retired from nursing to raise their |
---|
17 | 17 | | three children, Martin, Stephanie, and Heather, and with the |
---|
18 | 18 | | passing years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to |
---|
19 | 19 | | include two grandchildren, Sophie and Stiles; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, After settling in Gainesville, Mrs. McCreary |
---|
21 | 21 | | became highly engaged in her community; she enjoyed gardening |
---|
22 | 22 | | with the other parishioners at Westminster Presbyterian Church, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and she was instrumental in procuring a location for the ABBA |
---|
24 | 24 | | Women's Center, where she also served as a board member and as |
---|
25 | 25 | | director; in addition, she was a founding member of Cooke County |
---|
26 | 26 | | Republican Women and often gave of her time as a pollster during |
---|
27 | 27 | | elections; her contributions to conservative politics were |
---|
28 | 28 | | recognized in 1992 and again in 1994; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Rita McCreary lived a caring and purposeful life, |
---|
30 | 30 | | and she will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who |
---|
31 | 31 | | held her close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
34 | 34 | | of Rita Lou McCreary and extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn |
---|
35 | 35 | | her passing; and, be it further |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
---|
37 | 37 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
---|
38 | 38 | | this day, it do so in memory of Rita McCreary. |
