55 WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the
66 passing of Rita Lou McCreary on June 6, 2023, at the age of 88; and
77 WHEREAS, The daughter of Maude and Oscar Green, Rita
88 McCreary was born on her family's farm in Fulton, Arkansas, on
99 February 15, 1935, and she grew up with the companionship of
1010 seven siblings, Ronald, Inez, Farrell, Taylor, Sue, Janice, and
1111 Dixie; after graduating from Hope High School, she attended
1212 nursing school and became a nurse anesthetist; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mrs. McCreary later began working at hospitals in
1414 Dallas, during which time she met her future husband, Howell; the
1515 couple went on to share a fulfilling marriage until Mr. McCreary's
1616 passing in 1999; Mrs. McCreary retired from nursing to raise their
1717 three children, Martin, Stephanie, and Heather, and with the
1818 passing years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to
1919 include two grandchildren, Sophie and Stiles; and
2020 WHEREAS, After settling in Gainesville, Mrs. McCreary
2121 became highly engaged in her community; she enjoyed gardening
2222 with the other parishioners at Westminster Presbyterian Church,
2323 and she was instrumental in procuring a location for the ABBA
2424 Women's Center, where she also served as a board member and as
2525 director; in addition, she was a founding member of Cooke County
2626 Republican Women and often gave of her time as a pollster during
2727 elections; her contributions to conservative politics were
2828 recognized in 1992 and again in 1994; and
2929 WHEREAS, Rita McCreary lived a caring and purposeful life,
3030 and she will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who
3131 held her close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3333 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
3434 of Rita Lou McCreary and extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn
3535 her passing; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3737 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
3838 this day, it do so in memory of Rita McCreary.
