| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Harris County are celebrating |

| 3 | 3 | | the grand opening of the George H. W. Bush Community Center on |

| 4 | 4 | | June 21, 2023; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Located in the heart of the Cypress Creek Cultural |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | District, the 24,500-square-foot George H. W. Bush Community |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Center features a grand hall, a kitchen, a meeting room that |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | seats 700 people, and classrooms, as well as space for public |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | events and other activities; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The facility previously belonged to the Cypress |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Creek Christian Church and dates back to the 1970s, when the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Cypress Creek Christian Community Center partnered with 24 local |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | nonprofit organizations in an effort to provide valuable services |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | to area residents and a gathering place for community groups; while |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the center flourished over the next several decades, flooding |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | caused by Hurricane Harvey inflicted severe damage on the building |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in 2017, and it was purchased by Harris County Precinct 4 the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | following year; the project was later inherited by Precinct 3 due |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | to redistricting, and construction on the new George H. W. Bush |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Community Center began in November 2021; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The George H. W. Bush Community Center will |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | benefit the residents of Harris County for many years to come, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing the vision, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | leadership, and hard work that have helped bring this project to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | fruition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the grand |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | opening of the George H. W. Bush Community Center and commend all |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | those involved in the establishment of the center for their |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | outstanding efforts; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | prepared for the center as an expression of high regard from |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the Texas Senate. |
