5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Kathy Rae Knight of Sonora passed away on April |

6 | 6 | | 29, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving behind a loving family and |

7 | 7 | | many dear friends to cherish her memory; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of South Gate, California, the former |
---|
9 | 9 | | Kathy Rae Geesee was born on October 4, 1943, to Kenneth and Wanda |
---|
10 | 10 | | Geesee; she grew up with the companionship of four siblings, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Nancy, Richard, Jerry, and Phyllis, and she graduated in 1962 |
---|
12 | 12 | | from Pleasanton High School, where she was the head cheerleader |
---|
13 | 13 | | during her senior year; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After marrying the love of her life, Rodney |
---|
15 | 15 | | Knight, Mrs. Knight moved to Sonora when her husband accepted an |
---|
16 | 16 | | assignment as a game warden for Sutton County in 1972; she worked |
---|
17 | 17 | | for a time at Westerman's Drug Store before beginning a long |
---|
18 | 18 | | career at the Lillian M. Hudspeth Memorial Hospital; she played |
---|
19 | 19 | | an instrumental role in the operation of the hospital throughout |
---|
20 | 20 | | her employment, and after she retired as its assistant |
---|
21 | 21 | | administrator, she sold homemade jewelry through her shop, |
---|
22 | 22 | | Kathy's Jewelry & Gifts; she shared 46 years of marriage with |
---|
23 | 23 | | Mr. Knight until his passing; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Knight was deeply devoted to her five |
---|
25 | 25 | | children, Joe, Debbie, Betsy, Edie, and Lonnie; she also took |
---|
26 | 26 | | immense pride in her 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, |
---|
27 | 27 | | and she enjoyed having the opportunity to impart her baking |
---|
28 | 28 | | skills on her children and grandchildren; over the years, she |
---|
29 | 29 | | made many fond memories during family vacations to Florida, New |
---|
30 | 30 | | York, Michigan, and locations all across Texas, and she further |
---|
31 | 31 | | demonstrated her adventurousness by taking road trips to casinos |
---|
32 | 32 | | in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Although Kathy Rae Knight will be deeply missed, |
---|
34 | 34 | | she will forever hold a cherished place in the hearts of those who |
---|
35 | 35 | | were blessed to share in the warmth of her affection; now, |
---|
36 | 36 | | therefore, be it |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

38 | 38 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
39 | 39 | | of Kathy Rae Knight and extend sincere sympathy to the members of |

40 | 40 | | her family: to her children, Joe Shannon and his wife, Tammy, |

41 | 41 | | Debbie Norment and her husband, Darold, Betsy Knight, Edie |

42 | 42 | | Knight, and Lonnie Knight and his wife, Honey; to her |

43 | 43 | | grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to her siblings, Nancy |
