55 WHEREAS, Kathy Rae Knight of Sonora passed away on April
66 29, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving behind a loving family and
77 many dear friends to cherish her memory; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of South Gate, California, the former
99 Kathy Rae Geesee was born on October 4, 1943, to Kenneth and Wanda
1010 Geesee; she grew up with the companionship of four siblings,
1111 Nancy, Richard, Jerry, and Phyllis, and she graduated in 1962
1212 from Pleasanton High School, where she was the head cheerleader
1313 during her senior year; and
1414 WHEREAS, After marrying the love of her life, Rodney
1515 Knight, Mrs. Knight moved to Sonora when her husband accepted an
1616 assignment as a game warden for Sutton County in 1972; she worked
1717 for a time at Westerman's Drug Store before beginning a long
1818 career at the Lillian M. Hudspeth Memorial Hospital; she played
1919 an instrumental role in the operation of the hospital throughout
2020 her employment, and after she retired as its assistant
2121 administrator, she sold homemade jewelry through her shop,
2222 Kathy's Jewelry & Gifts; she shared 46 years of marriage with
2323 Mr. Knight until his passing; and
2424 WHEREAS, Mrs. Knight was deeply devoted to her five
2525 children, Joe, Debbie, Betsy, Edie, and Lonnie; she also took
2626 immense pride in her 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren,
2727 and she enjoyed having the opportunity to impart her baking
2828 skills on her children and grandchildren; over the years, she
2929 made many fond memories during family vacations to Florida, New
3030 York, Michigan, and locations all across Texas, and she further
3131 demonstrated her adventurousness by taking road trips to casinos
3232 in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana; and
3333 WHEREAS, Although Kathy Rae Knight will be deeply missed,
3434 she will forever hold a cherished place in the hearts of those who
3535 were blessed to share in the warmth of her affection; now,
3636 therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3838 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
3939 of Kathy Rae Knight and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
4040 her family: to her children, Joe Shannon and his wife, Tammy,
4141 Debbie Norment and her husband, Darold, Betsy Knight, Edie
4242 Knight, and Lonnie Knight and his wife, Honey; to her
4343 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to her siblings, Nancy
4444 Jones and her husband, Roger, and Richard Geesee and his wife,
4545 Donna; to her brother-in-law, Kurtney Knight, and his wife, Fran;
4646 to her numerous nieces and nephews; and to her other relatives
4747 and friends; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4949 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
5050 this day, it do so in memory of Kathy Rae Knight.
