55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
66 memories of James C. Gilbert of Texarkana, who passed away on
77 May 19, 2023, at the age of 81; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Watson, Arkansas, on September 13, 1941,
99 James Gilbert was the son of G. W. and Alice Gilbert; after
1010 graduating from high school, he answered his nation's call to
1111 duty and served in the U.S. Army; he later embarked on a civilian
1212 career in the wholesale flower business and retired from
1313 Greenleaf Wholesale Florist after 32 years in the industry; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Gilbert shared more than six decades of
1515 marriage with his loving wife, Lena; they were the devoted parents
1616 of a daughter, Sherrie, and a son, Phillip, and with the passing
1717 years, Mr. Gilbert experienced the joy of seeing his treasured
1818 family grow to include five grandchildren, Sarah, Kimberly,
1919 Phillip, Kayleigh, and Matthew, and a step-granddaughter,
2020 Shannon, as well as five great-grandchildren and six
2121 great-great-grandchildren; and
2222 WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Gilbert enjoyed grilling
2323 and deer hunting, and he loved to take trips to casinos; his
2424 greatest pleasure was hosting crawfish boils each spring; and
2525 WHEREAS, Although James Gilbert is greatly missed, he has
2626 left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they
2727 will forever cherish; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 1st
2929 Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of James C. Gilbert
3030 and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his
3131 wife, Lena Gilbert; to his daughter, Sherrie Parker, and her
3232 husband, Danny; to his son, Phillip Gilbert, and his wife, Debi;
3333 to his sister, Earlene Landry; to his grandchildren,
3434 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and to his
3535 many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3737 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
3838 this day, it do so in memory of James Gilbert.
