5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Dorothy Joe Woods of Royse City on May 14, 2023, at the |
---|
7 | 7 | | age of 89; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Eben and Ollie McClure, the former |
---|
9 | 9 | | Dorothy Joe McClure was born on January 30, 1934; she grew up with |
---|
10 | 10 | | four older siblings, Garth, Glenn, Mary Alice, and Martha Lou; on |
---|
11 | 11 | | June 23, 1951, she was united in matrimony with Mitchell Woods at |
---|
12 | 12 | | a ceremony conducted in Texarkana, Arkansas; they settled in |
---|
13 | 13 | | Rondo, and they were blessed with four children, Mitchell, Lorna, |
---|
14 | 14 | | Tonya, and Thomas; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Woods was employed as a realtor for 48 years, |
---|
16 | 16 | | and she and her husband also owned commercial greenhouses and |
---|
17 | 17 | | raised worms; later, they refurbished rental properties in the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Texarkana area; the couple shared a fulfilling relationship of 47 |
---|
19 | 19 | | years before the death of Mr. Woods; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Mrs. Woods served as |
---|
21 | 21 | | a judge at the Miller County Fair, and she was an EHC leader, |
---|
22 | 22 | | Alateen counselor, and active church volunteer; she had a green |
---|
23 | 23 | | thumb, and in addition to gardening, her many hobbies included |
---|
24 | 24 | | collecting Santa Clauses, cooking for family and friends, |
---|
25 | 25 | | playing the organ and piano, painting, sewing, and crocheting; |
---|
26 | 26 | | warm and kind, she was always the first to offer help when someone |
---|
27 | 27 | | she knew was in need; she had both a strong work ethic and a great |
---|
28 | 28 | | sense of fun, and her wonderful sense of humor brightened the |
---|
29 | 29 | | days of those around her; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Although Dorothy Joe Woods is deeply missed, the |
---|
31 | 31 | | passage of time will never diminish the joy and love that she |
---|
32 | 32 | | brought into the lives of all who knew her; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
---|
35 | 35 | | Dorothy Joe Woods and extend sincere condolences to the members of |
---|
36 | 36 | | her family: to her children, Mitchell Woods Jr. and his wife, Kim, |
---|
37 | 37 | | Lorna Chander, Tonya Raymond and her husband, Michael, and |
---|
38 | 38 | | Thomas Woods and his wife, Angela; to her grandchildren, David, |
---|
39 | 39 | | Brooke, Fallon, and Ryan; to her eight great-grandchildren; and to |

40 | 40 | | her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further |

41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

42 | 42 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |

43 | 43 | | this day, it do so in memory of Dorothy Joe Woods. |
