No. 39 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Recognized as one of the top weekly newspapers in the Lone Star State, the Pleasanton Express has received multiple awards from the Texas Press Association and the Texas Gulf Coast Press Association; and WHEREAS, The 2022 Texas Press Association awards were presented at the TPA Convention and Trade Show, held June 1 through 3, 2023, in Round Rock; competing in the Division 6 largest weekly category, the Pleasanton Express collected 10 awards, finishing second in sports coverage, column writing, and editorial, third in advertising, feature writing, news writing, and sports photography, and fourth in the general excellence, sweepstakes, and news photography categories; and WHEREAS, The Texas Gulf Coast Press Association's 2022 winners were announced at the TGCPA annual convention, which took place May 18 through 20, 2023, in Port Aransas; the Pleasanton Express excelled in the Division 2 competition, notching second-place showings in the special section (fire), display advertising, newspaper website, editorial writing, feature photos, and sports coverage categories; moreover, it was third in special section, serious columns, humorous columns, and sports photos, and it won honorable mentions in news photos, feature writing, and headline writing; and WHEREAS, Newspapers serve as a vital resource for a well-informed citizenry, and through their important work, the talented journalists of the Pleasanton Express are making an invaluable contribution to their community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Pleasanton Express on its success in the Texas Press Association and the Texas Gulf Coast Press Association 2022 newspaper competitions and extend to all those associated with the paper sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Pleasanton Express as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
