SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 40
WHEREAS, The Pitmasters barbecue team from Temple High
School captured second place at the National High School BBQ
Association National Championship in Hutto on June 19, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Guided by coaches Joe and Allison Medrano,
members William Hardin, Erandy Perez, Anthony Rangel, Jordan
Magana, and Reece Medrano won the title of reserve champion in
their first competition back in December 2022 and secured their
spot in the national contest at the state championship in May
2023; and
WHEREAS, In addition to finishing second overall in the
national contest, the Pitmasters placed first in the pork
shoulder category and earned fourth- and fifth-place honors for
their chicken and their steak fajita tacos; and
WHEREAS, With their exceptional showing at the national
championship, these fine young Texans have brought credit to
their school, and they may take justifiable pride in the skill
and dedication they have demonstrated; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the
Pitmasters barbecue team on its second-place finish at the
National High School BBQ Association National Championship and
extend to its members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard from the
Texas Senate.
