2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		join the people of Silsbee in celebrating The Presidential
4	8		Papers, a new historical exhibit opening in July of 2023 at the
5	9		Ice House Museum and Cultural Center; and
6	10		WHEREAS, The Ice House Museum and Cultural Center is
7	11		located in the historic Silsbee Ice Plant; constructed in 1927,
8	12		the plant remained operational until 1983, and the building was
9	13		designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark by the Texas
10	14		Historical Commission in 1991; the museum's board of directors
11	15		and its curator initiated plans for an extensive renovation in
12	16		2020 and transformed the building from a local art space into a
13	17		historical museum showcasing the history and historic material
14	18		culture of Hardin County; and
15	19		WHEREAS, The Ice House Museum and Cultural Center is home
16	20		to an impressive collection of historical letters, artifacts,
17	21		and documents; museum visitors enjoy a variety of historic
18	22		displays and antiquities that reveal and celebrate important
19	23		aspects of life in Southeast Texas before the advent of modern
20	24		technology, medicine, and transportation; and
21	25		WHEREAS, The museum's archives contain thousands of
22	26		original documents that illustrate the rich history of the Lone
23	27		Star State; The Presidential Papers will display correspondence
24	28		from President Lyndon B. Johnson, documents from Texas Senate
25	29		calendar clerk and lumberman John Henry Kirby, and an 1863
26	30		engraving of the Emancipation Proclamation; and
27	31		WHEREAS, The Ice House Museum and Cultural Center is a
28	32		source of pride and a treasured resource for Silsbee residents
29	33		and visitors, and the museum's dedicated staff and volunteers are
30	34		truly deserving of special recognition for their efforts to
31	35		preserve and promote Texas history; now, therefore, be it
32	36		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
33	37		Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the staff,
34	38		volunteers, and supporters of the Ice House Museum and Cultural
35	39		Center on their important work and extend to all best wishes for
36	40		the opening of The Presidential Papers exhibit and for continuing
37	41		success in their endeavors; and, be it further
38	42		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
39	43		the museum as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
