55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The members and staff of the Texas Legislature are
77 mourning the loss of a widely respected figure in the Capitol
88 community with the untimely passing of Tamoria R. Jones at the age
99 of 35; and
1010 WHEREAS, The longtime chief of staff for State Representative
1111 Harold V. Dutton Jr., Ms. Jones had played an instrumental role in
1212 the operations of his office since 2012; she further distinguished
1313 herself as the committee clerk for the House Urban Affairs
1414 Committee during the 83rd Legislature, the Juvenile Justice and
1515 Family Issues Committee during the 84th, 85th, 86th, and 88th
1616 Legislatures, and the Public Education Committee during the 87th
1717 Legislature; and
1818 WHEREAS, In the course of her duties, Ms. Jones not only
1919 mentored the members of Representative Dutton's staff but also
2020 provided valuable guidance to personnel in numerous other offices;
2121 moreover, her dedicated work in support of bills related to child
2222 literacy and other pivotal issues was widely admired, and her
2323 commitment to legislative service and her passion for improving the
2424 lives of Texas residents were an inspiration to all who had the good
2525 fortune to work alongside her; and
2626 WHEREAS, Ms. Jones completed her undergraduate studies at
2727 Prairie View A&M University in 2010 and went on to earn a master's
2828 degree in business administration from Texas Woman's University in
2929 2012; she graduated with her juris doctor from the Thurgood
3030 Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in 2018; and
3131 WHEREAS, State law stipulates in Section 2165.256,
3232 Government Code, that a person specified in a concurrent resolution
3333 adopted by the legislature is eligible for burial in the State
3434 Cemetery if the State Cemetery Committee finds that the person has
3535 made a significant contribution to Texas history and, based on that
3636 finding, approves the person's burial; and
3737 WHEREAS, In recognition of her outstanding contributions to
3838 the Lone Star State through more than a decade of exemplary service
3939 to the Texas House of Representatives, it is fitting that the family
4040 of Tamoria Jones be allowed to designate the State Cemetery as her
4141 final resting place; now, therefore, be it
4242 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas,
4343 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of
4444 Tamoria R. Jones and authorize her burial in the State Cemetery,
4545 provided that the application for assignment of burial space is
4646 approved by the State Cemetery Committee as required by law.
