| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Norma Lynn Knobel Hunt of Dallas, the beloved |

| 6 | 6 | | matriarch of one of the most influential families in American |

| 7 | 7 | | sports, passed away on June 4, 2023, at the age of 85; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Edward and Loretta Knobel, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | former Norma Knobel was born in Greenville on March 28, 1938; she |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | graduated from Richardson High School, earned a secondary education |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | degree from North Texas State University, and taught history at |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Richardson High; in 1963, she began dating Lamar Hunt, who had |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | founded the American Football League four years earlier; the couple |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | wed on January 22, 1964, and they shared more than 40 happy years |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | together before Mr. Hunt's death in 2006; they raised two sons, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Clark and Daniel, and Mrs. Hunt also took great pride in her five |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hunt provided vital support to her husband as |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | he realized a series of important achievements in the sports world, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | including the merger of the American and National Football Leagues |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and the formation of World Championship Tennis and Major League |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Soccer; at Mrs. Hunt's behest, the couple were founding investors |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | in the NBA's Chicago Bulls; above all, the Hunt name became |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | synonymous with the NFL and particularly with the Kansas City |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Chiefs franchise, which Mr. Hunt established in 1963 by relocating |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his Dallas-based AFL team to a new market; known as the First Lady |

| 27 | 27 | | of Football, Mrs. Hunt attended all 57 Super Bowls to date, |

| 28 | 28 | | starting with Kansas City's appearance in the inaugural 1967 title |

| 29 | 29 | | contest and concluding with the 2023 Super Bowl, in which the Chiefs |

| 30 | 30 | | claimed their third Lombardi Trophy; currently, her son Clark Hunt |

| 31 | 31 | | is chair and CEO of the family-owned team; and |

| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Deeply engaged in the community, Mrs. Hunt was a |

| 33 | 33 | | prominent benefactor of the Dallas Museum of Art, and she supported |

| 34 | 34 | | such entities as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Crystal Charity |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Ball, and Park Cities Presbyterian Church; moreover, she was the |

| 36 | 36 | | driving force in her family's acquisition of Bidwell Creek Vineyard |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | in California in 2000 and helped guide the development of its |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | award-winning wines; and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Renowned for her generosity, her positive outlook, |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | and her abiding concern for others, Norma Hunt will be greatly |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | missed, but the passage of time will never diminish the joy and love |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | that she brought into the lives of all who knew her; now, therefore, |

| 44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 45 | 45 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |

| 47 | 47 | | members of her family: to her sons, Clark Hunt and his wife, Tavia, |
