5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Dr. John Frederic Parrish of Houston on July 7, 2023, at |

7 | 7 | | the age of 80; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of George Theodor Parrish and Frances Emma |
---|
9 | 9 | | Kneip Parrish, John Parrish was born in Wilmar, California, on |
---|
10 | 10 | | January 14, 1943; he graduated from Buena Park High School in 1961; |
---|
11 | 11 | | in his younger years, he appeared on a ballroom dancing television |
---|
12 | 12 | | show, and he tried his hand at acting before earning a bachelor's |
---|
13 | 13 | | degree in physics from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles; |
---|
14 | 14 | | in 1970, he received both a master's degree and a doctorate in |
---|
15 | 15 | | physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Parrish enjoyed a rewarding career as a |
---|
17 | 17 | | geophysicist at Shell Oil Company that spanned 30 years, and he held |
---|
18 | 18 | | a number of patents; following his retirement, he maintained a |
---|
19 | 19 | | geophysical consulting practice, PeriSeis Company, and served as a |
---|
20 | 20 | | consultant at Knowledge Reservoir and Geokinetics; he was also |
---|
21 | 21 | | involved in the local municipal utility district for more than two |
---|
22 | 22 | | decades, and he taught physics at Lone Star College for several |
---|
23 | 23 | | years; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Parrish benefited from the |
---|
25 | 25 | | love and support of his wife, Donna, with whom he shared more than |
---|
26 | 26 | | five decades of marriage; he took great pride in their children, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Stephanie and Colin, and he had the pleasure of welcoming into his |
---|
28 | 28 | | family four grandchildren, Alexander, Colin, Miles, and Harper; |
---|
29 | 29 | | dedicated to his community, he was an active volunteer in Scouts |
---|
30 | 30 | | BSA, Civil Air Patrol, Knights of Columbus, and other church |
---|
31 | 31 | | groups; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Dr. John Parrish brings |
---|
33 | 33 | | immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a |
---|
34 | 34 | | legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; |
---|
35 | 35 | | now, therefore, be it |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
38 | 38 | | of Dr. John Frederic Parrish and extend heartfelt sympathy to the |
---|
39 | 39 | | members of his family: to his wife, Donna; to his daughter, |
---|
40 | 40 | | Stephanie Snyder, and her husband, Tom; to his son, Colin Parrish, |

41 | 41 | | and his wife, Anneliese Vogel; to his four grandchildren, Alexander |

42 | 42 | | Snyder, Colin Parrish II, Miles Parrish, and Harper Parrish; to his |

43 | 43 | | brother, Richard Parrish; and to his other relatives and many |
