5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Flower Mound lost an engaged citizen, an admired |

6 | 6 | | veteran, and a friend to many with the passing of Donald Joseph |

7 | 7 | | Shields on July 3, 2023, at the age of 84; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of George Shields and Mary Rita Healy |
---|
9 | 9 | | Shields, Don Shields was born in Buffalo, New York, on November 5, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1938; he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 22 |
---|
11 | 11 | | years, attaining the rank of master chief petty officer; through |
---|
12 | 12 | | the years, he continued to be known as "Master Chief" to those who |
---|
13 | 13 | | knew him well; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Shields was deeply patriotic and very dedicated |
---|
15 | 15 | | to his community; a staunch Republican, he gave generously of his |
---|
16 | 16 | | time and talents in behalf of campaigns for conservative candidates |
---|
17 | 17 | | and causes; he attended all events and meetings of the Flower Mound |
---|
18 | 18 | | Area Republican Club and often represented the group outside |
---|
19 | 19 | | polling places; he was also a longtime member of the NRA; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Shields shared a |
---|
21 | 21 | | fulfilling 50-year marriage with his wife, June Ann Shields; he was |
---|
22 | 22 | | blessed with four children, Kirk, Kara, Karl, and Keath, as well as |
---|
23 | 23 | | four grandchildren, Craig, Kaitlin, Cole, and Cameron, and he |
---|
24 | 24 | | delighted in supporting them at their activities; sustained by a |
---|
25 | 25 | | strong faith, Mr. Shields was a valued member of his church, where |
---|
26 | 26 | | he served on the security team; he loved music, especially |
---|
27 | 27 | | traditional barbershop singing, and his family enjoyed hearing him |
---|
28 | 28 | | play the harmonica and tap out melodies on the piano; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Although Don Shields will be sadly missed, his |
---|
30 | 30 | | faith, patriotism, and civic involvement will remain a lasting |
---|
31 | 31 | | source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be |
---|

33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

34 | 34 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |

35 | 35 | | Donald Joseph Shields and extend sincere sympathy to the members of |

36 | 36 | | his family: to his wife, June Ann Reeves Shields; to his children, |
