5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The retirement of Jim Yeonopolus as chancellor of |

6 | 6 | | Central Texas College on August 31, 2023, concludes 50 years of |
---|
7 | 7 | | dedicated service to the institution; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Air Force, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Mr. Yeonopolus completed a four-year tour of duty before embarking |
---|
10 | 10 | | on his career at CTC as a counselor for student services; through |
---|
11 | 11 | | the years, he held positions of increasing responsibility as dean, |
---|
12 | 12 | | assistant deputy chancellor, and deputy chancellor, and he went on |
---|
13 | 13 | | to be appointed as the college's fourth chancellor on November 19, |
---|
14 | 14 | | 2015; along the way, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to |
---|
15 | 15 | | supporting veterans and members of the military in achieving their |
---|
16 | 16 | | educational goals at CTC; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Yeonopolus earned his bachelor's degree from |
---|
18 | 18 | | Texas State University and his master's degree from the University |
---|
19 | 19 | | of Arizona; he previously served as campaign chair of the United Way |
---|
20 | 20 | | of the Greater Fort Hood Area and as president of the Council of |
---|
21 | 21 | | College and Military Educators, which honored him with several |
---|
22 | 22 | | awards for his commitment to the advancement of military and |
---|
23 | 23 | | veteran education; he shares his time and expertise with the boards |
---|
24 | 24 | | of the Central Texas Workforce Commission, the Association of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | United States Army, the National Association of Institutions for |
---|
26 | 26 | | Military Education Services, and the Killeen Rodeo Association; |
---|
27 | 27 | | moreover, he was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to the Task Force |
---|
28 | 28 | | on Academic Credit and Industry Recognition, and he was selected to |
---|
29 | 29 | | serve as an executive council member and chair for the Texas State |
---|
30 | 30 | | Delegation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools |
---|
31 | 31 | | Commission on Colleges; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Honored with numerous accolades over the years, |
---|
33 | 33 | | Mr. Yeonopolus received a 2021 Congressional Veteran Commendation |
---|
34 | 34 | | by U.S. Congressman John Carter for his service to his community and |
---|
35 | 35 | | nation; he was also named Airborne Man of the Year by the Vietnamese |
---|
36 | 36 | | Airborne Society in 2008, and he was a recipient of the 2017 Leon |
---|
37 | 37 | | Valley Silver Eagle Award by the Longhorn Council of Scouts BSA; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Jim Yeonopolus has led Central Texas College with |
---|
39 | 39 | | tremendous vision, energy, and dedication, and he may indeed |
---|
40 | 40 | | reflect with pride on his outstanding record of service and the |
---|
41 | 41 | | lasting impact he has had on the lives of generations of students; |
---|
42 | 42 | | now, therefore, be it |

43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Jim Yeonopolus on his |
---|
45 | 45 | | retirement as chancellor of Central Texas College and extend to him |
---|
46 | 46 | | sincere appreciation for his many years of service; and, be it |
