44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The citizens of Dumas lost an admired business and
66 civic leader with the passing of Thomas Roy Ferguson on June 17,
77 2023, at the age of 82; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of James and Lucile Ferguson, Tom Ferguson
99 was born in Amarillo on March 20, 1941, and he grew up in Happy with
1010 the companionship of his brother, Robert; after graduating from
1111 high school, he attended Texas Tech University and earned a
1212 bachelor's degree in industrial engineering; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Ferguson went on to enjoy a long and rewarding
1414 career in real estate; he started a company with his wife, Peggy
1515 Ferguson, called Ad Rem Land Company, and they were involved in
1616 several other business ventures as well that helped promote the
1717 growth and prosperity of the city of Dumas and Moore County; and
1818 WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Ferguson gave
1919 generously of his time and talents to numerous organizations,
2020 including Meals on Wheels, the Sunray Lions Club, and the Dumas Noon
2121 Lions Club; a former Boss Lion, he was a valued member of the Lions
2222 Club for many years and attended countless events; he also served on
2323 the Moore County Hospital District's board of directors and played
2424 an important role in the hospital's advancement over the past
2525 decade; in recognition of his myriad contributions, he received the
2626 Dumas/Moore County Chamber of Commerce's Outstanding Citizen Award
2727 in 2010 and its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020; and
2828 WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Ferguson was devoted to his
2929 family; he shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, Peggy, that
3030 spanned nearly four decades until her passing in 2021, and he was
3131 the proud father of five children, Bud, Kim, Jaimie, Daniel, and
3232 Aimie; affectionately known as "Papa Tom," he had the pleasure of
3333 welcoming into his family 14 grandchildren and 16
3434 great-grandchildren, and he delighted in planning reunions,
3535 vacations, and holidays with his loved ones; in his leisure time, he
3636 enjoyed going to Texas Tech football games and listening to classic
3737 country music and old gospel hymns; in addition, he was a man of
3838 devout faith and strong character, and he was known throughout
3939 Moore County for his kindness and generosity; and
4040 WHEREAS, Tom Ferguson lived a life that was rich in family,
4141 friends, and community service, and he will forever be remembered
4242 with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4444 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
4545 Thomas Roy Ferguson and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of
4646 his family: to his children, Bud Martin and his wife, Brenda, Kim
4747 Yearwood and her husband, Mark, Jaimie Wilson and her husband,
4848 Matt, Dr. Daniel Ferguson and his wife, Jennifer, and Aimie
4949 Ingersoll and her husband, Chad; to his grandchildren, Damon,
5050 Tyler, Chelsea, Brad, Arila, Jacob, Emily, Jae, Troy, Benjamin,
5151 Christian, Jayci, Jaz, and Lando; to his great-grandchildren; to
5252 his brother, Robert Ferguson; and to his other relatives and
5353 friends; and, be it further
5454 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5555 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5656 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tom
5757 Ferguson.
