5	5	WHEREAS, The citizens of Dumas lost an admired business and
6	6	civic leader with the passing of Thomas Roy Ferguson on June 17,
7	7	2023, at the age of 82; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The son of James and Lucile Ferguson, Tom Ferguson
9	9	was born in Amarillo on March 20, 1941, and he grew up in Happy with
10	10	the companionship of his brother, Robert; after graduating from
11	11	high school, he attended Texas Tech University and earned a
12	12	bachelor's degree in industrial engineering; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Mr. Ferguson went on to enjoy a long and rewarding
14	14	career in real estate; he started a company with his wife, Peggy
15	15	Ferguson, called Ad Rem Land Company, and they were involved in
16	16	several other business ventures as well that helped promote the
17	17	growth and prosperity of the city of Dumas and Moore County; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Ferguson gave
19	19	generously of his time and talents to numerous organizations,
20	20	including Meals on Wheels, the Sunray Lions Club, and the Dumas Noon
21	21	Lions Club; a former Boss Lion, he was a valued member of the Lions
22	22	Club for many years and attended countless events; he also served on
23	23	the Moore County Hospital District's board of directors and played
24	24	an important role in the hospital's advancement over the past
25	25	decade; in recognition of his myriad contributions, he received the
26	26	Dumas/Moore County Chamber of Commerce's Outstanding Citizen Award
27	27	in 2010 and its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Ferguson was devoted to his
29	29	family; he shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, Peggy, that
30	30	spanned nearly four decades until her passing in 2021, and he was
31	31	the proud father of five children, Bud, Kim, Jaimie, Daniel, and
32	32	Aimie; affectionately known as "Papa Tom," he had the pleasure of
33	33	welcoming into his family 14 grandchildren and 16
34	34	great-grandchildren, and he delighted in planning reunions,
35	35	vacations, and holidays with his loved ones; in his leisure time, he
36	36	enjoyed going to Texas Tech football games and listening to classic
37	37	country music and old gospel hymns; in addition, he was a man of
38	38	devout faith and strong character, and he was known throughout
39	39	Moore County for his kindness and generosity; and
40	40	WHEREAS, Tom Ferguson lived a life that was rich in family,
41	41	friends, and community service, and he will forever be remembered
42	42	with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
44	44	Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
45	45	Thomas Roy Ferguson and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of
46	46	his family: to his children, Bud Martin and his wife, Brenda, Kim
47	47	Yearwood and her husband, Mark, Jaimie Wilson and her husband,
48	48	Matt, Dr. Daniel Ferguson and his wife, Jennifer, and Aimie
49	49	Ingersoll and her husband, Chad; to his grandchildren, Damon,
50	50	Tyler, Chelsea, Brad, Arila, Jacob, Emily, Jae, Troy, Benjamin,
51	51	Christian, Jayci, Jaz, and Lando; to his great-grandchildren; to
52	52	his brother, Robert Ferguson; and to his other relatives and
53	53	friends; and, be it further
54	54	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
55	55	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
56	56	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tom
57	57	Ferguson.
