| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The death of Mario A. Martinez on June 28, 2023, at |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the age of 69, has profoundly saddened the many people whose lives |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | he touched over the course of a noteworthy career spanning nearly |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | five decades in the legislative community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Charlie Martinez Jr. and Mary Louise |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Martinez, Mario Martinez was born in Bay City on June 2, 1954; he |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | grew up with three siblings, Cecilia, Julia, and Charlie; after |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | graduating from Southwest Texas State University with a bachelor's |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | degree in criminal justice, he began working as a legislative aide |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | to State Representative Tom Uher and rose to become chief of staff; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | he went on to serve as governmental affairs director for the Texas |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | State Troopers Association for more than a decade; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez married the love of his life, Louann, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | in 1994, and they became the parents of two treasured daughters, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Avery and McKenna; the couple founded the consulting firm Martinez & |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Associates in 1996, and until his passing, Mr. Martinez |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | represented major industries and law enforcement entities, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | providing expertise regarding a number of challenging issues; a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | loyal and diligent advocate for his clients, he distinguished |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | himself through his integrity, professionalism, and deep expertise |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in the inner workings of government; his big heart, engaging |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | personality, and wonderful sense of humor brought him numerous |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | close friendships, and he was a kind mentor to many; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Above all, Mr. Martinez was dedicated to his family; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | he encouraged his daughters to follow their dreams while instilling |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the importance of education, a strong work ethic, and good |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | character; in addition, he shared with them his love of hunting, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | fishing, and adopting stray animals; he also enjoyed spending time |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | in Rockport on his boat; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Deeply caring, Mario Martinez sought to use his |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | skill and influence not only for the benefit of his clients, but |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | also for the betterment of Texas, and he will be greatly missed by |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | all who were privileged to share in the richness of his life; now, |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | therefore, be it |

| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |

| 41 | 41 | | of Mario A. Martinez and extend sincere condolences to the members |

| 42 | 42 | | of his family: to his wife, Louann Martinez; to his daughters, Avery |

| 43 | 43 | | Martinez and her fiancé, Ryan Harrington, and McKenna Martinez; to |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | his honorary daughter, Meg Green; to his sisters, Cecilia Martinez |

| 45 | 45 | | and Julia Ebanks and her husband, Ernie; to his brother, Charlie |

| 46 | 46 | | Martinez III, and his wife, Theresa; to his nephew, Charles |
