44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The death of Mario A. Martinez on June 28, 2023, at
66 the age of 69, has profoundly saddened the many people whose lives
77 he touched over the course of a noteworthy career spanning nearly
88 five decades in the legislative community; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Charlie Martinez Jr. and Mary Louise
1010 Martinez, Mario Martinez was born in Bay City on June 2, 1954; he
1111 grew up with three siblings, Cecilia, Julia, and Charlie; after
1212 graduating from Southwest Texas State University with a bachelor's
1313 degree in criminal justice, he began working as a legislative aide
1414 to State Representative Tom Uher and rose to become chief of staff;
1515 he went on to serve as governmental affairs director for the Texas
1616 State Troopers Association for more than a decade; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez married the love of his life, Louann,
1818 in 1994, and they became the parents of two treasured daughters,
1919 Avery and McKenna; the couple founded the consulting firm Martinez &
2020 Associates in 1996, and until his passing, Mr. Martinez
2121 represented major industries and law enforcement entities,
2222 providing expertise regarding a number of challenging issues; a
2323 loyal and diligent advocate for his clients, he distinguished
2424 himself through his integrity, professionalism, and deep expertise
2525 in the inner workings of government; his big heart, engaging
2626 personality, and wonderful sense of humor brought him numerous
2727 close friendships, and he was a kind mentor to many; and
2828 WHEREAS, Above all, Mr. Martinez was dedicated to his family;
2929 he encouraged his daughters to follow their dreams while instilling
3030 the importance of education, a strong work ethic, and good
3131 character; in addition, he shared with them his love of hunting,
3232 fishing, and adopting stray animals; he also enjoyed spending time
3333 in Rockport on his boat; and
3434 WHEREAS, Deeply caring, Mario Martinez sought to use his
3535 skill and influence not only for the benefit of his clients, but
3636 also for the betterment of Texas, and he will be greatly missed by
3737 all who were privileged to share in the richness of his life; now,
3838 therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4040 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4141 of Mario A. Martinez and extend sincere condolences to the members
4242 of his family: to his wife, Louann Martinez; to his daughters, Avery
4343 Martinez and her fiancé, Ryan Harrington, and McKenna Martinez; to
4444 his honorary daughter, Meg Green; to his sisters, Cecilia Martinez
4545 and Julia Ebanks and her husband, Ernie; to his brother, Charlie
4646 Martinez III, and his wife, Theresa; to his nephew, Charles
4747 Martinez, and his partner, Trevor Kent; to his nieces, Nicole
4848 Martinez, Mallory Dracket and her husband, Demiko, and Annemarie
4949 Ebanks; to his great-nieces, Clarice and Addison Warnock; and to
5050 his other relatives and host of friends; and, be it further
5151 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5252 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5353 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mario
5454 Martinez.
