| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 49, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 49.1571 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 49.1571. CREDIT FOR CERTAIN FACILITIES COSTS. (a) |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | This section applies only to a school district located in a county |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | that borders on the Gulf of Mexico. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (b) The total amount required under Section 49.153 for a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | school district to which this section applies to purchase |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | attendance credit under this subchapter for any school year is |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | reduced by an amount equal to the amount of money spent by the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | district in the preceding school year to: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (1) perform necessary facility maintenance, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | renovations, and repairs attributable to damage resulting from |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | natural conditions associated with the facility's proximity to the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Gulf of Mexico; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (2) pay for property insurance to cover the costs of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | facility maintenance, renovations, and repairs described by |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Subdivision (1). |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (c) A reduction under Subsection (b) shall be made after |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | making any reduction to which the district is entitled under |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Section 49.157 or another provision of this chapter. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | last day of the legislative session. |
