5	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6		-	commemorates the life of Eddie Baker Freeman Jr., who died on
7		-	~~May~~ 17, 2023, at the age of 67; and

8	9		WHEREAS, Eddie Freeman Jr. was born on December 3, 1955, in
9	10		Austin; he attended Anderson High School in East Austin until it
10		-	was closed in 1971 to further desegregation, and he graduated from
11		-	Reagan High School in 1974; Eddie went on to attend The University
12		-	of Texas at Austin, where he joined the Eta Theta Chapter of Omega
13		-	Psi Phi Fraternity and met his future wife, Zelda Choice; and

14	16		WHEREAS, Eddie moved to Dallas with his fiancée in 1980 and
15	17		earned a bachelor's degree in business and a master's degree in
16	18		business administration from Dallas Baptist University, where he
17	19		became a member of the Omicron Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter of
18	20		Omega Psi Phi and forged lifelong connections with his fraternity
19	21		brothers; and
20	22		WHEREAS, Passionate about social justice and committed to
21	23		the pursuit of equality, Eddie served as the director of
22	24		diversity, equity, and inclusion at The University of Texas at
23	25		Arlington; he also served as the executive director of equal
24	26		opportunity services and as president of the African American
25	27		Faculty and Staff Association, and he made great strides in
26	28		fostering a sense of pride and belonging among the university's
27	29		students, staff, and faculty members; and
28	30		WHEREAS, Eddie was a member of the Sports Corporation for
29	31		the City of Grand Prairie; he promoted athletic excellence and a
30	32		spirit of camaraderie within the community, and he enjoyed
31	33		cheering for his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas
32	34		Rangers, and the Dallas Mavericks; and
33	35		WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Eddie was a
34	36		member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship for 43 years; he contributed
35	37		to the fellowship's Christian education ministry and served as an
36	38		elder for more than three decades; and
37	39		WHEREAS, Eddie was a caring husband to his wife of 42
38	40		years, Zelda Choice Freeman, and a loving father to their three
39	41		children, Kathryn Freeman, Eddie Freeman, and Candace Freeman
40	42		Memphis, who were a source of great pride and joy to him; and
41	43		WHEREAS, An advocate for inclusive representation and the
42	44		equality and civil rights of all people, Eddie was an inspiration
43		-	to all who knew him, and his memory will be forever treasured by ~~his~~
44		-	many loved ones and by all who were privileged to share in his ~~life;~~
45		-	now, therefore, be it

46	48		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
47	49		Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
48	50		condolences to the bereaved family of Eddie Baker Freeman Jr.;

50	52		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
51	53		his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
52	54		Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
53	55		memory of Eddie Freeman Jr.
