5+ SENATE RESOLUTION
56 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6- commemorates the life of Eddie Baker Freeman Jr., who died on
7- May 17, 2023, at the age of 67; and
7+ commemorates the life of Eddie Baker Freeman Jr., who died on May
8+ 17, 2023, at the age of 67; and
89 WHEREAS, Eddie Freeman Jr. was born on December 3, 1955, in
910 Austin; he attended Anderson High School in East Austin until it
10- was closed in 1971 to further desegregation, and he graduated from
11- Reagan High School in 1974; Eddie went on to attend The University
12- of Texas at Austin, where he joined the Eta Theta Chapter of Omega
13- Psi Phi Fraternity and met his future wife, Zelda Choice; and

1416 WHEREAS, Eddie moved to Dallas with his fiancée in 1980 and
1517 earned a bachelor's degree in business and a master's degree in
1618 business administration from Dallas Baptist University, where he
1719 became a member of the Omicron Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter of
1820 Omega Psi Phi and forged lifelong connections with his fraternity
1921 brothers; and
2022 WHEREAS, Passionate about social justice and committed to
2123 the pursuit of equality, Eddie served as the director of
2224 diversity, equity, and inclusion at The University of Texas at
2325 Arlington; he also served as the executive director of equal
2426 opportunity services and as president of the African American
2527 Faculty and Staff Association, and he made great strides in
2628 fostering a sense of pride and belonging among the university's
2729 students, staff, and faculty members; and
2830 WHEREAS, Eddie was a member of the Sports Corporation for
2931 the City of Grand Prairie; he promoted athletic excellence and a
3032 spirit of camaraderie within the community, and he enjoyed
3133 cheering for his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas
3234 Rangers, and the Dallas Mavericks; and
3335 WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Eddie was a
3436 member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship for 43 years; he contributed
3537 to the fellowship's Christian education ministry and served as an
3638 elder for more than three decades; and
3739 WHEREAS, Eddie was a caring husband to his wife of 42
3840 years, Zelda Choice Freeman, and a loving father to their three
3941 children, Kathryn Freeman, Eddie Freeman, and Candace Freeman
4042 Memphis, who were a source of great pride and joy to him; and
4143 WHEREAS, An advocate for inclusive representation and the
4244 equality and civil rights of all people, Eddie was an inspiration
43- to all who knew him, and his memory will be forever treasured by his
44- many loved ones and by all who were privileged to share in his life;
45- now, therefore, be it

4648 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4749 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
4850 condolences to the bereaved family of Eddie Baker Freeman Jr.;
4951 and, be it further
5052 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
5153 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
5254 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
5355 memory of Eddie Freeman Jr.
