5	5	SENATE RESOLUTION
6	6	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
7	7	join in expressing support for the people of the Islamic Republic
8	8	of Iran, who have been bravely protesting human rights abuses and
9	9	fighting for their fundamental rights and freedoms; and
10	10	WHEREAS, Since 1979, Iranians have been deprived of their
11	11	basic freedoms under the theocratic dictatorship of the Iranian
12	12	government; the regime has enforced violence against women and
13	13	the brutal suppression of ethnic and religious minorities,
14	14	including Iranian Kurds, Baluchis, Arabs, Christians, Jews,
15	15	Baha'is, Zoroastrians, and Sunni Muslims; and
16	16	WHEREAS, The people of Iran have been resolutely committed
17	17	to opposing of state-sanctioned violence for more than 40 years
18	18	through organized resistance and protests; the recent waves of
19	19	protests in September of 2022 in response to the death of Mahsa
20	20	Amini while in police custody for alleged improper wearing of her
21	21	hijab reflect their ongoing rejection of religious tyranny and
22	22	their fight for a democratic and secular Republic of Iran; and
23	23	WHEREAS, The American people and the citizens of Texas
24	24	stand in solidarity with the people of Iran and support their
25	25	pursuit of a government founded on principles, laws, and policies
26	26	that entail and protect human rights and individual freedoms;
27	27	now, therefore, be it
28	28	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
29	29	Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the people of
30	30	Iran on their courageous resistance against tyranny and abuse;
31	31	and, be it further
32	32	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
33	33	expression of solidarity and support from the Texas Senate.
