77 relating to the rural constable's office salary assistance grant
88 program.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Sections 130.912(d) and (e), Local Government
1111 Code, are amended to read as follows:
1212 (d) The comptroller shall award a grant to a qualified
1313 county that applies for the grant using money appropriated to the
1414 comptroller for that purpose. [The comptroller may only award a
1515 grant to a county if the county agrees in writing to contribute at
1616 least 75 percent of the money required to meet the minimum annual
1717 salary requirement established under Subsection (e) for each
1818 qualified constable for which the county will also use grant money
1919 to provide that salary.]
2020 (e) A [Subject to Subsection (d), a] county that is awarded
2121 a grant shall use or authorize the use of the grant money only:
2222 (1) to provide a minimum annual salary of $45,000 to a
2323 qualified constable;
2424 (2) to hire additional constable deputies; or
2525 (3) to increase the salary for a constable deputy.
2626 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2727 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2828 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2929 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3030 Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the
3131 legislative session.
