55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the offering of certain high school courses for which
88 students may earn college credit.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 28.009, Education Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (a-6) to read as follows:
1212 (a-6) A governmental entity or state officer may not
1313 prohibit an international baccalaureate course, an advanced
1414 placement course, or any instructional component of a course for
1515 which an accredited institution of higher education in this state
1616 awards course credit in the subject for the achievement of a
1717 required score on a College-Level Examination Program examination,
1818 an advanced placement test, or an international baccalaureate
1919 examination from being offered to students.
2020 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2024-2025
2121 school year.
2222 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2323 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2424 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2525 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2626 Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the
2727 legislative session.
