| 7 | 7 | | relating to the renewal of a license to carry a handgun. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 411.185(a), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (a) To renew a license, a license holder must, on or before |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the first anniversary of the date the license expires, submit to the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | department by mail or, in accordance with the procedure adopted |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | under Subsection (f), on the Internet: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) a renewal application on a form provided by the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | department; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (2) payment of a nonrefundable renewal fee of $40; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (3) the informational form described by Subsection (c) |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | signed or electronically acknowledged by the applicant. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | handgun license that expires before, on, or after the effective |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | date of this Act. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | legislative session. |
