| 8 | 8 | | teachers for the cost of classroom supplies purchased with personal |

| 9 | 9 | | money. |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 21.4145 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 21.4145. CLASSROOM SUPPLY REIMBURSEMENT FOR CERTAIN |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | GRADE LEVELS. (a) From money appropriated or otherwise available |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for the purpose, the agency shall distribute to each school |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | district the amount necessary for the district to reimburse each |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | classroom teacher employed by the district who teaches students |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | enrolled at or below the ninth grade level for the cost of classroom |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | supplies purchased by the teacher with the teacher's personal money |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | for the benefit of those students as follows: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (1) for a classroom teacher who teaches students |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | enrolled at or below the sixth grade level, up to $600 per school |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | year; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (2) for a classroom teacher who teaches students |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | enrolled at the seventh, eighth, or ninth grade level, up to $500 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | per school year. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (b) A classroom teacher may be reimbursed under the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | classroom supply reimbursement program established under Section |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 21.414 for the cost of purchases eligible for reimbursement under |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | that section for which the teacher is not reimbursed under |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Subsection (a). |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (c) The commissioner shall adopt rules necessary to |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | implement this section. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2024-2025 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | school year. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | legislative session. |
|---|
