77 relating to a heat stress safety policy for outdoor athletic
88 activities at public schools.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 33, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 33.2055 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 33.2055. HEAT STRESS SAFETY POLICY REQUIRED FOR
1313 OUTDOOR ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES. (a) A school district or
1414 open-enrollment charter school that offers an extracurricular
1515 athletic activity that includes outdoor practices or competitions
1616 shall adopt a heat stress safety policy for outdoor athletic
1717 activities to protect student athletes from heat-related injury.
1818 The policy must include criteria for taking appropriate protective
1919 measures based on the wet-bulb globe temperature at the location of
2020 the activity.
2121 (b) Any organization, company, or other entity using a
2222 school district or open-enrollment charter school facility for an
2323 outdoor athletic activity shall comply with the district's or
2424 school's policy adopted under Subsection (a).
2525 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the
2626 last day of the legislative session.
