9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 33, Education Code, is |
---|
11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 33.2055 to read as follows: |

12 | 12 | | Sec. 33.2055. HEAT STRESS SAFETY POLICY REQUIRED FOR |
---|
13 | 13 | | OUTDOOR ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES. (a) A school district or |
---|
14 | 14 | | open-enrollment charter school that offers an extracurricular |
---|
15 | 15 | | athletic activity that includes outdoor practices or competitions |
---|
16 | 16 | | shall adopt a heat stress safety policy for outdoor athletic |
---|
17 | 17 | | activities to protect student athletes from heat-related injury. |
---|
18 | 18 | | The policy must include criteria for taking appropriate protective |
---|
19 | 19 | | measures based on the wet-bulb globe temperature at the location of |
---|
20 | 20 | | the activity. |
---|
21 | 21 | | (b) Any organization, company, or other entity using a |
---|
22 | 22 | | school district or open-enrollment charter school facility for an |
---|
23 | 23 | | outdoor athletic activity shall comply with the district's or |
---|
24 | 24 | | school's policy adopted under Subsection (a). |
---|
25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the |
---|
26 | 26 | | last day of the legislative session. |
