| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 21.0445 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 21.0445. EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS FOR MARKETING |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | EDUCATION CERTIFICATE AND FOR HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | CERTIFICATE. (a) The board shall propose rules under this |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | subchapter to create abbreviated educator preparation programs |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | for: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (1) a person seeking a certification to teach courses |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in marketing; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) a person seeking a certification to teach courses |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | in health science technology. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (b) In proposing rules for educator preparation programs |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | under this section, the board shall ensure that: |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (1) each program requires at least 200 hours of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | coursework or training; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (2) persons certified under the programs may not be |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | issued additional certifications based on the person's performance |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | on an examination prescribed under Section 21.048. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 2. The State Board for Educator Certification shall |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | propose rules establishing standards to govern the approval and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | renewal of approval of educator preparation programs for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | certification in marketing education and certification in health |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | science technology education. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | legislative session. |
