66 AN ACT
77 relating to creating abbreviated educator preparation programs for
88 certification in marketing education and certification in health
99 science technology education.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 21.0445 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 21.0445. EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS FOR MARKETING
1414 EDUCATION CERTIFICATE AND FOR HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
1515 CERTIFICATE. (a) The board shall propose rules under this
1616 subchapter to create abbreviated educator preparation programs
1717 for:
1818 (1) a person seeking a certification to teach courses
1919 in marketing; and
2020 (2) a person seeking a certification to teach courses
2121 in health science technology.
2222 (b) In proposing rules for educator preparation programs
2323 under this section, the board shall ensure that:
2424 (1) each program requires at least 200 hours of
2525 coursework or training; and
2626 (2) persons certified under the programs may not be
2727 issued additional certifications based on the person's performance
2828 on an examination prescribed under Section 21.048.
2929 SECTION 2. The State Board for Educator Certification shall
3030 propose rules establishing standards to govern the approval and
3131 renewal of approval of educator preparation programs for
3232 certification in marketing education and certification in health
3333 science technology education.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3535 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3636 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3737 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3838 Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the
3939 legislative session.
