| 7 | 7 | | the living conditions and safety of persons confined in the Harris |

| 8 | 8 | | County jail. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. (a) The Commission on Jail Standards shall |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | conduct a study to evaluate the living conditions and safety of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | persons confined in the Harris County jail. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (b) Not later than December 1, 2024, the Commission on Jail |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Standards shall submit to the legislature a written report on the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | results of the study and any recommendations for legislative or |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | other action to improve the living conditions and safety of persons |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | confined in the Harris County jail. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. This Act expires September 1, 2025. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | legislative session. |
