55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The National Life Monument celebrates the miracle of
77 life and the women at the center of that miracle; and
88 WHEREAS, Sculpted by artist Timothy Schmalz, the bronze
99 sculpture depicts a mother with an unborn child cradled in a
1010 world-shaped womb; and
1111 WHEREAS, The eight-foot bronze statue was permanently
1212 installed at the Church of San Marcello al Corso in Rome in May
1313 2022, and after a tour of the U.S., the original Life Monument was
1414 installed at the Theological College in Washington, D.C.; and
1515 WHEREAS, Under Chapter 443, Government Code, and rules of the
1616 State Preservation Board, a portion of the north Capitol grounds is
1717 available for new monuments, subject to legislative approval,
1818 specified procedural requirements, the provision of funding from
1919 private donors, conformity to certain size and design limitations
2020 and parameters, and completion on a timely basis; and
2121 WHEREAS, A replica of the monument on the Capitol grounds
2222 would provide a communal place for Texans to celebrate the beauty of
2323 human life; now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas,
2525 3rd Called Session, hereby authorize the State Preservation Board,
2626 subject to state law and rules of the board, to approve the
2727 construction of a replica of the National Life Monument at the State
2828 Capitol Complex, at a site outside of the historic Capitol grounds;
2929 and, be it further
3030 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward an
3131 official copy of this resolution to the executive director of the
3232 State Preservation Board.
