56 WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed oilman drew to a close with
67 the passing of James C. Henry of Midland on October 17, 2023, at the
78 age of 89; and
89 WHEREAS, Jim Henry was born on September 23, 1934, to James
910 S. and Muriel Henry in Andagoya, Colombia; his family returned to
1011 the U.S., and he graduated from high school in Oklahoma City,
1112 Oklahoma; he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in petroleum
1213 engineering from the University of Oklahoma and then served in the
1314 U.S. Air Force with the Propulsion Research Laboratory at
1415 Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, rising to the rank of
1516 captain; and
1617 WHEREAS, Embarking on his career, Mr. Henry worked for the
1718 Humble Oil and Refining Company, the Skelly Oil Company, and the
1819 Solar Oil Company in Midland before cofounding H&L Consultants in
1920 1969 with Bob Landenberger; they went on to form Henry &
2021 Landenberger, Inc.; the company became known as Henry Petroleum
2122 Corp., and Mr. Henry served as CEO before it was sold to Concho
2223 Resources in 2008; he next started Henry Resources; and
2324 WHEREAS, Mr. Henry founded the Forum for Exploration,
2425 Production and Acquisition, the Independent Petroleum Association
2526 of America, and the Applied Petroleum Technology Academy, and he
2627 belonged to the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the board of the
2728 Permian Basin Petroleum Association; he was the inaugural recipient
2829 of the Texas Public Policy Foundation Sam Houston Award, and his
2930 other accolades included the Top Pioneer and Lifetime Achievement
3031 Awards from the Permian Basin Petroleum Pioneers as well as the
3132 Midland Ethics in Business award; deeply dedicated to the
3233 betterment of his community, he contributed his time and talents to
3334 numerous local organizations, among them Casa de Amigos, Midland
3435 Need to Read, and Midland YMCA; and
3536 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Henry enjoyed the love and
3637 support of his wife of 59 years, Paula, and he took great pride in
3738 his children, Jamie, Beverly, and David, as well as his 12
3839 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; a man of faith, he was an
3940 active member of First Methodist Church; and
4041 WHEREAS, Although Jim Henry is deeply missed, memories of his
4142 integrity, his generosity, and his warm and joyful nature remain to
4243 comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas,
4445 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
4546 James C. Henry and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his
4647 family: to his wife, Paula Henry; to his sisters, Virginia Smith and
4748 Rosemary Graham; to his daughters, Jamie Henry and Beverly Kelly;
4849 to his son, David Henry; to his grandchildren, Brittany, Hope,
4950 Justin, Dylan, Bryce, Isabel, Sophie, Austin, Wyatt, Avery, Lexi,
5051 and Heather; to his great-grandchildren, Opal, Nova, and Oliver
5152 James; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
5253 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5354 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5455 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
5556 Jim Henry.
