56 WHEREAS, Elwood Freeman, the president of Lamesa National
67 Bank, was honored by the Texas Bankers Association in April 2023 for
78 his more than 75 years in the banking industry; and
89 WHEREAS, Mr. Freeman began his career at First National Bank
910 of Aspermont in 1944, and he went on to accept a position at First
1011 National Bank in Rotan; he later answered his nation's call to duty
1112 by serving in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War;
1213 following his military service, he studied finance at Texas Tech
1314 University while working part-time at the First National Bank in
1415 Lubbock, which employed him full-time once he had earned his
1516 bachelor's degree in 1957; he joined Lamesa National Bank in 1966 as
1617 executive vice president, and after seven years in that role, he was
1718 promoted to president; he has served the company in that position in
1819 the five decades since; and
1920 WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Freeman has been
2021 involved in a number of civic organizations over the years, and he
2122 has served as president of the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce and
2223 the Lamesa Rotary Club and as a board member of the Medical Arts
2324 Hospital, the Bill and Elwanda Weaver Foundation, the First
2425 Methodist Church of Lamesa, FNB Aspermont, and the Texas Tech
2526 Foundation; among his many accolades, he has received a 50-year
2627 Banker Award from the Texas Bankers Association, the 1988
2728 Distinguished Service Award at the Bankers Agricultural Credit
2829 Conference, and the Banker of the Year Award at the Texas
2930 Agricultural Credit Conference; and
3031 WHEREAS, Through his leadership, hard work, and commitment to
3132 excellence, Elwood Freeman has greatly benefited the colleagues and
3233 clients he has served over the course of his long career in banking,
3334 and he may indeed take well-deserved pride in his professional
3435 achievements; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas,
3637 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Elwood Freeman for his more than 75
3738 years of service in banking and extend to him sincere best wishes
3839 for continued success; and, be it further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for Mr. Freeman as an expression of high regard by the
4142 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
