| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, One of the state's most enduringly popular holiday |

| 9 | 9 | | traditions, Dickens on the Strand was established to celebrate |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Galveston's Victorian architecture, and it played a significant |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | role in the recognition of the Strand as a National Historic |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Landmark; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The street festival appeals to a wide range of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | visitors and area residents with its family programming and its |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | presentation of live entertainment on four stages; strolling |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | carolers, roving musicians, bagpipers, jugglers, and others in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Victorian garb help evoke the sights and sounds of Charles Dickens' |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | stories, most notably the beloved A Christmas Carol; this year, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | children can explore a new addition, Tiny Tim's Play Land; among the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | special offerings are a cricket match and play performances; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, From rolling carts and street stalls, vendors peddle |

| 22 | 22 | | food, drink, and a wide variety of wares, including holiday |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | decorations, Victorian-inspired crafts, clothing, jewelry, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | gift items; costumed revelers enjoy parades, contests, and even bed |

| 25 | 25 | | races, as well as encounters with characters in 19th-century garb, |

| 26 | 26 | | among them actors portraying Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Father |

| 27 | 27 | | Christmas, and Dickens himself; many descendants of Charles Dickens |

| 28 | 28 | | will be in attendance; and |

| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Dickens on the Strand has been a highlight of the |

| 30 | 30 | | Galveston calendar for half a century, bringing the community |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | together and drawing people from across Texas and beyond, and it is |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | truly a pleasure to join in celebrating this significant milestone |

| 33 | 33 | | in the history of the festival; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 50th annual |
