| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 6 | | passing of Steven A. Shamlian of Harlingen on August 31, 2023, at |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the age of 71; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Steve Shamlian was born in 1952; blessed with a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | devoted family, he enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Liz, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and he treasured time spent with his friends and loved ones; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A skilled pitmaster, Mr. Shamlian was involved in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the International Barbeque Cookers Association, and he competed |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | with his wife in numerous barbecue contests across Texas; among |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | their many achievements, they won the Buddy Breitschopf Memorial |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Award at the First Shot Cook-Off in 2019; in addition, Mr. Shamlian |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | was engaged in politics, and he was a staunch advocate for |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | conservative values; he participated in the Rio Grande |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Valley-Harlingen MAGA Meetup and Trump Train in 2020; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Steve Shamlian brings |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | legacy that will long be cherished by all those who held him dear; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Steven A. Shamlian and extend sincere condolences to all who |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Steve |
|---|
