44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, La Vernia lost an admired civic leader with the
66 passing of former mayor Ewald Edward Koepp Jr. on March 20, 2016, at
77 the age of 86; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of E. O. and Theresa Koepp, "Junior" Koepp
99 was born on February 3, 1930; he played football as a student at La
1010 Vernia High School and Texas Lutheran University, and he served his
1111 country in the U.S. military during the Korean War; following in his
1212 father's footsteps, he began working in the automotive industry at
1313 an early age, and in 1969, he took over the family business, Koepp
1414 Chevrolet; he dedicated himself to providing top-notch customer
1515 service and the dealership flourished; he also took pride in his
1616 role as developer of the Silverado Hills and Westover subdivisions;
1717 and
1818 WHEREAS, Mr. Koepp served his community in numerous
1919 leadership roles; during 14 years as mayor, he oversaw the paving of
2020 roads and the installation of a sewer system, among other
2121 improvements; he further served as a member of the county school
2222 board and Wilson County appraisal board and as an officer in the
2323 volunteer fire department; a founder of the La Vernia Chamber of
2424 Commerce and the Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce, he was an
2525 active member of the Lions Club, Sons of Hermann, and American
2626 Legion; he benefited youth as a scout leader, and he was a past
2727 master of Masonic Lodge No. 226 and a member of Alzahar Temple;
2828 committed to conservative values, he organized the Wilson County
2929 Republican Party and served as chair for a dozen years; and
3030 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Koepp married Jewel Helmke
3131 on April 10, 1955, and they became the parents of two sons, Dwight
3232 and Hiram, and a daughter, Melissa; eventually, he was blessed with
3333 nine grandchildren, Eric, Andrew, Lauren, Jessica, Elise,
3434 Alexandria, Travis, Parker, and Ryan; sustained by a strong faith,
3535 Mr. Koepp was a valued member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he
3636 served as councilman and as a member of the cemetery committee;
3737 following his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with friends and
3838 relatives, working cattle on his ranch, fishing, hunting, and
3939 pursuing his great passion, taking care of the land; and
4040 WHEREAS, Junior Koepp gave freely of his time and expertise
4141 to better his community, and his selfless example of public service
4242 and civic engagement remains a source of inspiration to all who were
4343 privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4545 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
4646 Ewald Edward Koepp Jr. and extend sincere condolences to his family
4747 and friends; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5050 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Junior
5151 Koepp.
