| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family, friends, and colleagues of Shelby County |

| 6 | 6 | | Deputy Matthew Michael Eugene Pierson of Etoile have suffered an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | immeasurable loss with his tragic passing on August 29, 2023, at the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | age of 25; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Matthew Pierson was born in Houston on June 17, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1998, to Michael Eugene Pierson and Pamela Lee; after his mother's |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | death, he lived with his uncle Jaimie Campbell, whom he loved as a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | father; he graduated in 2017 from Huntington High School, where he |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | was prom king and president of his senior class; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Early in his career, Mr. Pierson worked as a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | security guard for CHI St. Luke's Health, first in Lufkin and then |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in Houston; he graduated from the Houston Community College Police |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Academy on August 15, 2023, and on August 24, he realized his dream |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of becoming a deputy when he accepted a position with the Shelby |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | County Sheriff's Office; he further demonstrated his commitment to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | serve and protect the public as a member of the Etoile Volunteer |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Fire Department; actively engaged in his community, he was involved |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | with a number of other organizations as well; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Outside of his professional and civic |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | responsibilities, Deputy Pierson enjoyed spending time with his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | wide circle of loved ones, which included his best friend, Jeremy, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | as well as a host of relatives and other individuals who had become |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | like family to him; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Possessed of a dynamic personality and a kind and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | generous nature, Matthew Pierson brightened the world for all who |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | knew him, and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |

| 34 | 34 | | of Deputy Matthew Michael Eugene Pierson and extend deepest |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | condolences to the members of his family: to his grandfather, |

| 36 | 36 | | Robert Johnson; to his uncles, Jaimie Campbell and Steve Lee; to his |

| 37 | 37 | | sister, Ashleigh Blaze; and to his other relatives and friends; |
