5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Laredo lost an esteemed civic leader |

6 | 6 | | with the passing of Joseph Claude Martin III on October 29, 2023, at |

7 | 7 | | the age of 82; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Laredo on May 3, 1941, Joseph Martin was the |
---|
9 | 9 | | son of Joseph Claude Martin Jr. and Anita Ligarde Martin, and the |
---|
10 | 10 | | descendant of several of the oldest South Texas families; he grew up |
---|
11 | 11 | | with three sisters, Patsy, Josephine, and Minnie; after completing |
---|
12 | 12 | | his education, he returned to his hometown and embarked on a |
---|
13 | 13 | | multi-faceted career in the insurance business, real estate |
---|
14 | 14 | | development, construction, ranching, and oil and gas exploration; |
---|
15 | 15 | | and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Martin gave generously of his time and expertise |
---|
17 | 17 | | to almost every civic organization in Laredo and chaired numerous |
---|
18 | 18 | | boards; for many years, he was a trustee of the Bruni Mineral Trust, |
---|
19 | 19 | | and in 1997, he succeeded his father as a co-trustee of the Lamar |
---|
20 | 20 | | Bruni Vergara Trust, benefiting countless individuals in his |
---|
21 | 21 | | beloved city; he proudly followed in the footsteps of both his |
---|
22 | 22 | | father and his grandfather by serving on the board of the Laredo |
---|
23 | 23 | | National Bank; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, An avid traveler, Mr. Martin also loved wing |
---|
25 | 25 | | shooting, and he combined his two passions whenever possible, and |
---|
26 | 26 | | he made friends in the shooting world from South American bird boys |
---|
27 | 27 | | to Italian gunmakers; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Martin set an inspiring example through his |
---|
29 | 29 | | steadfast commitment to his community, and he earned the lasting |
---|
30 | 30 | | respect and admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, |
---|
31 | 31 | | therefore, be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

33 | 33 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
