44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Lydia T. Rocha of Del Rio on October 8, 2023, at the age
77 of 79; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Del Rio on January 11, 1944, Lydia Rocha was
99 the daughter of Guadalupe Torres Sr. and Maria de Jesus Torres, and
1010 she grew up in a large family; after graduating from Del Rio High
1111 School in 1962, she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary
1212 education from Texas Woman's University; later in life, she
1313 received a master's degree from Texas A&I University and multiple
1414 certifications from Sul Ross State University; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mrs. Rocha went on to serve as a teacher and
1616 administrator in the Del Rio school system; as a reading
1717 specialist, she shared her passion for reading with countless
1818 students during her time in the classroom; she ultimately concluded
1919 her career as an assistant principal after 41 years in education;
2020 along the way, she impacted the lives of many young people and
2121 always sought to support the teachers and staff who worked
2222 alongside her; she was a longtime member of the professional
2323 teacher organization Delta Kappa Gamma; in retirement, she traveled
2424 the world, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, and New York as well as Mexico
2525 and several countries in Europe; and
2626 WHEREAS, Above all else, Mrs. Rocha cherished her family; in
2727 1966, she married Hector Rocha, and the couple shared a fulfilling
2828 relationship until his passing; she was a caring and devoted mother
2929 to her six children, Cynthia, Hector, Bianca, Roberto, Bonnie, and
3030 Monique, and she supported each of them in all of their endeavors;
3131 with the passing years, she became the beloved matriarch of a fine
3232 family that grew to include nine grandchildren, Ramiro, Luis
3333 Gabriel, Hector Manuel, Valerie, Andrea Renee, Adrian Elias,
3434 Fernando, Adrian Francisco, and Noah Robert, and five
3535 great-grandchildren, Anaya Reese, Ayden, Adela, Santiago Adriel,
3636 and Sofia Marie; and
3737 WHEREAS, Mrs. Rocha was sustained throughout her life by her
3838 strong faith; a valued congregant of St. Joseph Catholic Church,
3939 she volunteered as a catechist and was active with various prayer
4040 groups, such as Grupo Renovación and the Catholic Woman's
4141 Organization; and
4242 WHEREAS, Lydia T. Rocha earned the lasting respect and
4343 admiration of all who were privileged to know her, and she will
4444 forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of her loved ones and
4545 friends; now, therefore, be it
4646 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4747 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4848 of Lydia T. Rocha and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn her
4949 passing; and, be it further
5050 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5151 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5252 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lydia
5353 Rocha.
