5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Lydia T. Rocha of Del Rio on October 8, 2023, at the age |
---|
7 | 7 | | of 79; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Del Rio on January 11, 1944, Lydia Rocha was |
---|
9 | 9 | | the daughter of Guadalupe Torres Sr. and Maria de Jesus Torres, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | she grew up in a large family; after graduating from Del Rio High |
---|
11 | 11 | | School in 1962, she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary |
---|
12 | 12 | | education from Texas Woman's University; later in life, she |
---|
13 | 13 | | received a master's degree from Texas A&I University and multiple |
---|
14 | 14 | | certifications from Sul Ross State University; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Rocha went on to serve as a teacher and |
---|
16 | 16 | | administrator in the Del Rio school system; as a reading |
---|
17 | 17 | | specialist, she shared her passion for reading with countless |
---|
18 | 18 | | students during her time in the classroom; she ultimately concluded |
---|
19 | 19 | | her career as an assistant principal after 41 years in education; |
---|
20 | 20 | | along the way, she impacted the lives of many young people and |
---|
21 | 21 | | always sought to support the teachers and staff who worked |
---|
22 | 22 | | alongside her; she was a longtime member of the professional |
---|
23 | 23 | | teacher organization Delta Kappa Gamma; in retirement, she traveled |
---|
24 | 24 | | the world, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, and New York as well as Mexico |
---|
25 | 25 | | and several countries in Europe; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Above all else, Mrs. Rocha cherished her family; in |
---|
27 | 27 | | 1966, she married Hector Rocha, and the couple shared a fulfilling |
---|
28 | 28 | | relationship until his passing; she was a caring and devoted mother |
---|
29 | 29 | | to her six children, Cynthia, Hector, Bianca, Roberto, Bonnie, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | Monique, and she supported each of them in all of their endeavors; |
---|
31 | 31 | | with the passing years, she became the beloved matriarch of a fine |
---|
32 | 32 | | family that grew to include nine grandchildren, Ramiro, Luis |
---|
33 | 33 | | Gabriel, Hector Manuel, Valerie, Andrea Renee, Adrian Elias, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Fernando, Adrian Francisco, and Noah Robert, and five |
---|
35 | 35 | | great-grandchildren, Anaya Reese, Ayden, Adela, Santiago Adriel, |
---|
36 | 36 | | and Sofia Marie; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Rocha was sustained throughout her life by her |
---|
38 | 38 | | strong faith; a valued congregant of St. Joseph Catholic Church, |
---|
39 | 39 | | she volunteered as a catechist and was active with various prayer |
---|
40 | 40 | | groups, such as Grupo Renovación and the Catholic Woman's |
---|
41 | 41 | | Organization; and |
---|
42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Lydia T. Rocha earned the lasting respect and |
---|
43 | 43 | | admiration of all who were privileged to know her, and she will |
---|
44 | 44 | | forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of her loved ones and |
---|
45 | 45 | | friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
47 | 47 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
48 | 48 | | of Lydia T. Rocha and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn her |
---|
49 | 49 | | passing; and, be it further |

50 | 50 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

51 | 51 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |

52 | 52 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lydia |
