| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The centennial of the Arlington Public Library |

| 6 | 6 | | offers a welcome opportunity to recognize the institution's many |

| 7 | 7 | | years of service to the community; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The library is celebrating the anniversary with a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | series of events over a 10-week period in the fall of 2023, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | including a gala on November 4 hosted by the Friends and Foundation |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of the Arlington Public Library; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The Arlington Public Library was established on |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | March 23, 1923, when librarian Pearl Wade managed a book collection |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | from the Tarrant County Free Library; today, APL serves more than |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1.5 million people each year at its seven branches, the East Library |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and Recreation Center, Ron Wright Lake Arlington Branch Library, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Northeast Branch Library, Southeast Branch Library, Southwest |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Branch Library, Woodland West Branch Library, and George W. Hawkes |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Downtown Library, which opened in 2018; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Currently led by its director, Norma Zuniga, the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | library provides local residents with access to hundreds of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | thousands of books, audiobooks, e-books, DVDs, digital photo |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | collections, genealogy resources, and kits for parents and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | teachers, as well as a variety of educational programs for children |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and adults; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The Arlington Public Library has been a cherished |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | resource to generations of area residents, and it is a privilege to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | join in celebrating the organization's rich history and the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | exceptional work of the many staff members, volunteers, and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | supporters who have sustained its mission over the past century; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | anniversary of the Arlington Public Library and extend to all those |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | associated with the library sincere best wishes for the future; |
