| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Hardy Meredith was awarded the title of photographer |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | emeritus at Stephen F. Austin State University in 2023, providing a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | fitting opportunity to pay tribute to his career that has spanned |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | more than four decades; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A member of the SFA Class of 1981, Mr. Meredith |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | started working at the university in 1996, and over the years, he |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | served as a guest speaker, classroom lecturer, and judge at |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | countless photography contests; his images have been published in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | five books highlighting the school and the Nacogdoches area; he |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | retired from his alma mater in 2020; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, During his time as a student at SFA, Mr. Meredith |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | took pictures for The Pine Log, the school's student newspaper; he |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | began his professional career at the Tyler Morning Telegraph, where |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | he earned recognition as a sports action photographer and had work |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | published by the Associated Press; he went on to serve as chief |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | photographer at The Daily Sentinel for more than 14 years and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | continues to work for the paper; in addition, he won the Best of Cox |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Grand Awards on two occasions, and an art show featuring 50 of his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | best photographs was held at the Griffith Gallery; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Meredith enjoys the love |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and support of a fine family that includes his wife of 34 years, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Jeri, his three sons, and his six grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, For nearly 25 years, Hardy Meredith chronicled the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | people and activities of the SFA community, creating a rich and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | compelling visual record of life in Nacogdoches, and he is indeed |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Hardy |

| 33 | 33 | | Meredith on being named photographer emeritus at Stephen F. Austin |

| 34 | 34 | | State University and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
