5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Lone Star State lost a respected business and |
---|
6 | 6 | | community leader with the death of Barry Gerard Andrews of Dallas on |
---|
7 | 7 | | September 19, 2023, at the age of 77; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Electra on April 4, 1946, Mr. Andrews was |
---|
9 | 9 | | the son of Jewell and Homer Andrews, and he was raised in Corpus |
---|
10 | 10 | | Christi with his two siblings, Trey and Judy; following his |
---|
11 | 11 | | graduation from Carroll High School, he attended Southwest Texas |
---|
12 | 12 | | State University; he married his high school sweetheart, Lana, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | they went on to share a rewarding union that spanned 56 years; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1976, the couple founded Andrews Distributing in |
---|
15 | 15 | | Corpus Christi, and three years later, Mr. Andrews became the |
---|
16 | 16 | | youngest person to be awarded a distributorship by Miller Brewing |
---|
17 | 17 | | Company; under his visionary leadership, the business experienced |
---|
18 | 18 | | significant growth, and in 1994, its headquarters moved to Dallas; |
---|
19 | 19 | | eventually, the company expanded to serve 26 counties in North and |
---|
20 | 20 | | South Texas, with five locations across the state; along the way, |
---|
21 | 21 | | Mr. Andrews distinguished himself through his innovative business |
---|
22 | 22 | | practices, as well as the care with which he treated his employees; |
---|
23 | 23 | | in addition to his professional responsibilities, he was deeply |
---|
24 | 24 | | committed to giving back to the community; he was a member of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Baylor Health Care System Foundation Board and MD Anderson Cancer |
---|
26 | 26 | | Center Board of Visitors; moreover, he supported cancer research |
---|
27 | 27 | | through the Cattle Baron's Ball in Corpus Christi and Dallas, and he |
---|
28 | 28 | | sponsored the annual MD Anderson Cancer Center Living Legend |
---|
29 | 29 | | Luncheons; his myriad honors include the National Beer Wholesaler |
---|
30 | 30 | | Association's Life Service Award, recognition as South Texan of the |
---|
31 | 31 | | Year, and induction into the Texas Business Hall of Fame; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, A dedicated family man, Mr. Andrews took great pride |
---|
33 | 33 | | in his children, Natalie and Blake, and he had the pleasure of |
---|
34 | 34 | | becoming "Bare Bare" to his four cherished grandchildren, Madison, |
---|
35 | 35 | | Sophie, Curran, and Bain; he enjoyed entertaining loved ones at his |
---|
36 | 36 | | ranch in Papalote, and he also delighted in listening to George |
---|
37 | 37 | | Strait music, riding his mowing tractor, and rooting for the Dallas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Cowboys; a man of strong faith, he served on the Highland Park |
---|
39 | 39 | | United Methodist Church Pastor Parish Council; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Barry Andrews lived a life that was rich in personal |
---|
41 | 41 | | and professional achievements, and his contributions will continue |
---|
42 | 42 | | to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
45 | 45 | | of Barry Gerard Andrews and extend heartfelt condolences to his |
---|
46 | 46 | | relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
---|
47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
48 | 48 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
49 | 49 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barry |
