44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Lone Star State lost a respected business and
66 community leader with the death of Barry Gerard Andrews of Dallas on
77 September 19, 2023, at the age of 77; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Electra on April 4, 1946, Mr. Andrews was
99 the son of Jewell and Homer Andrews, and he was raised in Corpus
1010 Christi with his two siblings, Trey and Judy; following his
1111 graduation from Carroll High School, he attended Southwest Texas
1212 State University; he married his high school sweetheart, Lana, and
1313 they went on to share a rewarding union that spanned 56 years; and
1414 WHEREAS, In 1976, the couple founded Andrews Distributing in
1515 Corpus Christi, and three years later, Mr. Andrews became the
1616 youngest person to be awarded a distributorship by Miller Brewing
1717 Company; under his visionary leadership, the business experienced
1818 significant growth, and in 1994, its headquarters moved to Dallas;
1919 eventually, the company expanded to serve 26 counties in North and
2020 South Texas, with five locations across the state; along the way,
2121 Mr. Andrews distinguished himself through his innovative business
2222 practices, as well as the care with which he treated his employees;
2323 in addition to his professional responsibilities, he was deeply
2424 committed to giving back to the community; he was a member of the
2525 Baylor Health Care System Foundation Board and MD Anderson Cancer
2626 Center Board of Visitors; moreover, he supported cancer research
2727 through the Cattle Baron's Ball in Corpus Christi and Dallas, and he
2828 sponsored the annual MD Anderson Cancer Center Living Legend
2929 Luncheons; his myriad honors include the National Beer Wholesaler
3030 Association's Life Service Award, recognition as South Texan of the
3131 Year, and induction into the Texas Business Hall of Fame; and
3232 WHEREAS, A dedicated family man, Mr. Andrews took great pride
3333 in his children, Natalie and Blake, and he had the pleasure of
3434 becoming "Bare Bare" to his four cherished grandchildren, Madison,
3535 Sophie, Curran, and Bain; he enjoyed entertaining loved ones at his
3636 ranch in Papalote, and he also delighted in listening to George
3737 Strait music, riding his mowing tractor, and rooting for the Dallas
3838 Cowboys; a man of strong faith, he served on the Highland Park
3939 United Methodist Church Pastor Parish Council; and
4040 WHEREAS, Barry Andrews lived a life that was rich in personal
4141 and professional achievements, and his contributions will continue
4242 to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4444 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4545 of Barry Gerard Andrews and extend heartfelt condolences to his
4646 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4949 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barry
5050 Andrews.
