44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Howard Taylor retired from the San Angelo Museum of
66 Fine Arts on August 1, 2023, after 38 years of exemplary service as
77 the museum's president and CEO; and
88 WHEREAS, Under Mr. Taylor's leadership, the San Angelo
99 Museum of Fine Arts became the only museum to receive the National
1010 Service Award from the American Institute of Architects, and it was
1111 further recognized with the Institute of Museum and Library
1212 Services' National Museum Service Award at a ceremony at the White
1313 House; along the way, Mr. Taylor was personally recognized with the
1414 President's Award by the Texas Association of Museums and with the
1515 Citizen of the Year Award by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce; he
1616 was also honored with the John L. Nau III Award for Excellence in
1717 Museums by the Texas Historical Commission; and
1818 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from
1919 the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio, and he has pursued
2020 further studies in American civilization and historical archeology
2121 at the University of Pennsylvania; in addition, he is a graduate of
2222 the museum management program offered by the Museums Collaborative
2323 of New York and the Columbia University Business School, and he has
2424 completed a cultural arts management program through the University
2525 of Pennsylvania's Wharton School; and
2626 WHEREAS, Before coming to Texas to take the helm of the
2727 museum, Mr. Taylor served as chief of interpretation for the
2828 Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society and as assistant
2929 director of the Philadelphia Maritime Museum; he has been actively
3030 involved in several professional associations, having led the
3131 Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia as president and presided
3232 over the American Association of Museums annual meeting as
3333 co-chair; he has also served on the board of directors of the
3434 American Alliance of Museums and as president of AAM's largest
3535 professional committee, the National Association for Museum
3636 Exhibition; moreover, he is a past president of the Texas
3737 Association of Museums, and he has frequently been invited to speak
3838 at museums and art venues throughout the country; and
3939 WHEREAS, The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts has benefited
4040 immeasurably from Howard Taylor's visionary leadership and his
4141 unwavering commitment to the institution's mission, and the impact
4242 of his contributions will be felt for many years to come; now,
4343 therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4545 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Howard Taylor on the
4646 occasion of his retirement from the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts
4747 and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
4848 further
4949 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5050 prepared for Mr. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5151 House of Representatives.
