5	5	WHEREAS, Howard Taylor retired from the San Angelo Museum of
6	6	Fine Arts on August 1, 2023, after 38 years of exemplary service as
7	7	the museum's president and CEO; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Under Mr. Taylor's leadership, the San Angelo
9	9	Museum of Fine Arts became the only museum to receive the National
10	10	Service Award from the American Institute of Architects, and it was
11	11	further recognized with the Institute of Museum and Library
12	12	Services' National Museum Service Award at a ceremony at the White
13	13	House; along the way, Mr. Taylor was personally recognized with the
14	14	President's Award by the Texas Association of Museums and with the
15	15	Citizen of the Year Award by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce; he
16	16	was also honored with the John L. Nau III Award for Excellence in
17	17	Museums by the Texas Historical Commission; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from
19	19	the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio, and he has pursued
20	20	further studies in American civilization and historical archeology
21	21	at the University of Pennsylvania; in addition, he is a graduate of
22	22	the museum management program offered by the Museums Collaborative
23	23	of New York and the Columbia University Business School, and he has
24	24	completed a cultural arts management program through the University
25	25	of Pennsylvania's Wharton School; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Before coming to Texas to take the helm of the
27	27	museum, Mr. Taylor served as chief of interpretation for the
28	28	Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society and as assistant
29	29	director of the Philadelphia Maritime Museum; he has been actively
30	30	involved in several professional associations, having led the
31	31	Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia as president and presided
32	32	over the American Association of Museums annual meeting as
33	33	co-chair; he has also served on the board of directors of the
34	34	American Alliance of Museums and as president of AAM's largest
35	35	professional committee, the National Association for Museum
36	36	Exhibition; moreover, he is a past president of the Texas
37	37	Association of Museums, and he has frequently been invited to speak
38	38	at museums and art venues throughout the country; and
39	39	WHEREAS, The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts has benefited
40	40	immeasurably from Howard Taylor's visionary leadership and his
41	41	unwavering commitment to the institution's mission, and the impact
42	42	of his contributions will be felt for many years to come; now,
43	43	therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
45	45	Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Howard Taylor on the
46	46	occasion of his retirement from the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts
47	47	and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
48	48	further
49	49	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
50	50	prepared for Mr. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas
51	51	House of Representatives.
