5	5	WHEREAS, A milestone in the history of Angelo State
6	6	University athletics was realized in 2023 when the baseball team
7	7	secured its first NCAA Division II national championship; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Following an impressive performance during the
9	9	regular season, the Rams clinched their third straight Lone Star
10	10	Conference Tournament title for an automatic bid to the South
11	11	Central Regional Tournament; defeating Metropolitan State
12	12	University of Denver and The University of Texas at Tyler, Angelo
13	13	State moved on to the South Central Super Regional; after sweeping
14	14	Colorado Mesa University, the team advanced to the NCAA Division II
15	15	College World Series in Cary, North Carolina, for the third
16	16	consecutive year; and
17	17	WHEREAS, ASU opened the World Series with wins over Southern
18	18	New Hampshire University and North Greenville University; next, in
19	19	a pivotal rematch against SNHU, the Rams prevailed 5-3 to punch
20	20	their ticket to the Division II title game for the first time in
21	21	program history; and
22	22	WHEREAS, On June 10, Angelo State faced off against Rollins
23	23	College at the USA Baseball National Training Complex; the Rams
24	24	built a 6-2 lead over the first eight innings and then demonstrated
25	25	great resolve after the Tars rallied to pull within one run in the
26	26	ninth; with the bases loaded and the national crown on the line, ASU
27	27	claimed the title with a dramatic strikeout, triumphing by the
28	28	final score of 6-5; the Rams ended with an outstanding record of 56
29	29	victories and 9 losses, setting school and conference win records
30	30	while claiming the university's first national championship in
31	31	men's sports; and
32	32	WHEREAS, The Rams were led by World Series Most Valuable
33	33	Player Aaron Munson, who was joined by Kade Bragg, Justin Harris,
34	34	and Kamden Kelton on the All-Tournament Team; benefiting from the
35	35	able leadership of head coach Kevin Brooks and his staff, the team
36	36	also received valuable contributions from the other members of the
37	37	roster over the course of the year; and
38	38	WHEREAS, Playing with exceptional skill, determination, and
39	39	teamwork, the Angelo State Rams realized their season-long goal of
40	40	becoming national champions, and their achievement will forever be
41	41	a proud memory for the university's loyal fans throughout Texas and
42	42	beyond; now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
44	44	Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Angelo
45	45	State University baseball team on winning the 2023 NCAA Division II
46	46	national championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff
47	47	sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
48	48	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
49	49	prepared for the Rams as an expression of high regard by the Texas
50	50	House of Representatives.
