44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Dr. Sharron Forest, director of the Doctor of
66 Nursing Practice program at The University of Texas Medical Branch
77 at Galveston, has received a 2023 Regents' Outstanding Teaching
88 Award from The University of Texas System Board of Regents; and
99 WHEREAS, Established in 2008, this prestigious accolade
1010 recognizes individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary
1111 classroom performance and innovation in undergraduate instruction;
1212 each recipient is given a $25,000 cash award in appreciation of
1313 their contributions to the students and institutions they serve;
1414 and
1515 WHEREAS, Dr. Forest holds the Will Bivins Singleton
1616 Professorship in Pediatric Nursing at UTMB; she has worked in the
1717 field of neonatal critical care nursing for more than three
1818 decades, including over 25 years as a neonatal nurse practitioner;
1919 as director of the DNP program at UTMB's School of Nursing, she
2020 focuses her research and grant activities on education and health
2121 care improvement, and her grant-funded projects have included
2222 initiatives to address tobacco use among youth and mothers, to
2323 prepare nurse practitioner students to care for underserved
2424 populations, and to facilitate collaboration between DNP and Ph.D.
2525 programs; and
2626 WHEREAS, This highly respected educator received a
2727 bachelor's degree in nursing from McNeese State University and a
2828 bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Louisiana State
2929 University, before obtaining both her DNP and her master's degree
3030 in nursing from The University of Texas Health Science Center at
3131 Houston; she is a recipient of a Novice Faculty Didactic Teaching
3232 Award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, in
3333 addition to such accolades as the Outstanding DNP Faculty Award and
3434 the Good Samaritan Foundation's Excellence in Nursing Gold Medal
3535 Award; and
3636 WHEREAS, Dr. Sharron Forest's dedication and expertise have
3737 benefited countless students and earned her the lasting respect and
3838 admiration of her colleagues, and she is truly deserving of this
3939 notable honor; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4141 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Sharron
4242 Forest on her receipt of a 2023 Outstanding Teaching Award from The
4343 University of Texas System Board of Regents and extend to her
4444 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for Dr. Forest as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4747 House of Representatives.
