5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sharron Forest, director of the Doctor of |

7 | 7 | | at Galveston, has received a 2023 Regents' Outstanding Teaching |

8 | 8 | | Award from The University of Texas System Board of Regents; and |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2008, this prestigious accolade |
---|
10 | 10 | | recognizes individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary |
---|
11 | 11 | | classroom performance and innovation in undergraduate instruction; |
---|
12 | 12 | | each recipient is given a $25,000 cash award in appreciation of |
---|
13 | 13 | | their contributions to the students and institutions they serve; |
---|
14 | 14 | | and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Forest holds the Will Bivins Singleton |
---|
16 | 16 | | Professorship in Pediatric Nursing at UTMB; she has worked in the |

17 | 17 | | field of neonatal critical care nursing for more than three |
---|
18 | 18 | | decades, including over 25 years as a neonatal nurse practitioner; |
---|
19 | 19 | | as director of the DNP program at UTMB's School of Nursing, she |
---|
20 | 20 | | focuses her research and grant activities on education and health |
---|
21 | 21 | | care improvement, and her grant-funded projects have included |
---|
22 | 22 | | initiatives to address tobacco use among youth and mothers, to |
---|
23 | 23 | | prepare nurse practitioner students to care for underserved |
---|
24 | 24 | | populations, and to facilitate collaboration between DNP and Ph.D. |
---|
25 | 25 | | programs; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This highly respected educator received a |
---|
27 | 27 | | bachelor's degree in nursing from McNeese State University and a |
---|
28 | 28 | | bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Louisiana State |
---|
29 | 29 | | University, before obtaining both her DNP and her master's degree |
---|
30 | 30 | | in nursing from The University of Texas Health Science Center at |
---|
31 | 31 | | Houston; she is a recipient of a Novice Faculty Didactic Teaching |
---|
32 | 32 | | Award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, in |
---|
33 | 33 | | addition to such accolades as the Outstanding DNP Faculty Award and |
---|
34 | 34 | | the Good Samaritan Foundation's Excellence in Nursing Gold Medal |

35 | 35 | | Award; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sharron Forest's dedication and expertise have |

37 | 37 | | benefited countless students and earned her the lasting respect and |

38 | 38 | | admiration of her colleagues, and she is truly deserving of this |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
