5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of William Murphey Black |
---|
6 | 6 | | Sr. of Ozona were deeply saddened by his passing on August 7, 2023, |
---|
7 | 7 | | at the age of 83; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Charles Sewell Black Jr. and Mary Jane |
---|
9 | 9 | | Murphey Black, Bill Black was born in Big Lake on April 22, 1940, |
---|
10 | 10 | | and he grew up on his family's ranch with the companionship of his |
---|
11 | 11 | | sister, Judy; he graduated from Ozona High School in 1958 and |
---|
12 | 12 | | attended Texas Christian University, where he enrolled in the ranch |
---|
13 | 13 | | management program; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Black married Susie Chandler on March 31, 1961, |
---|
15 | 15 | | and the couple shared a fulfilling union that spanned 62 years; they |
---|
16 | 16 | | became the proud parents of two children, Will and Sue Ellen, who |
---|
17 | 17 | | preceded her father in death, and their family eventually grew to |
---|
18 | 18 | | include five grandchildren, Murphey, Allie, Weslee, Wendy, and |
---|
19 | 19 | | Whitney, and four great-grandchildren, Brit, Bodie, Maddie, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Maysen; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A lifelong rancher, Mr. Black worked livestock in |
---|
22 | 22 | | Crockett, Pecos, Terrell, and Val Verde Counties, and for several |
---|
23 | 23 | | years, he bought and sold sheep and goats from ranchers in the area |
---|
24 | 24 | | and sent them all over the United States; in addition to ranching, |
---|
25 | 25 | | he owned and operated Ozona Storage and Encino RV Park with his |
---|
26 | 26 | | wife; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Black served as |
---|
28 | 28 | | Crockett County commissioner for six years, and he gave generously |
---|
29 | 29 | | of his time and talents to the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers |
---|
30 | 30 | | Association, the American Sheep Industry Association, and the Texas |
---|
31 | 31 | | and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association; he was one of the |
---|
32 | 32 | | original directors of the Crockett National Bank and a valued |
---|
33 | 33 | | member of Ozona United Methodist Church; known for his tremendous |
---|
34 | 34 | | work ethic and wonderful sense of humor, he enjoyed sharing stories |
---|
35 | 35 | | and good conversation with friends, loved ones, and strangers |
---|
36 | 36 | | alike, and in his younger years, he took pleasure in hunting, |
---|
37 | 37 | | fishing, and team roping; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Although Bill Black is greatly missed, he has left |
---|
39 | 39 | | his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will |
---|
40 | 40 | | forever treasure; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
---|
43 | 43 | | William Murphey Black Sr. and extend sincere condolences to all who |
---|
44 | 44 | | mourn his passing; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
46 | 46 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
47 | 47 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill Black. |
