5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Marie Gonzales is retiring as the executive director |
---|
6 | 6 | | of special education at the Round Rock Independent School District |
---|
7 | 7 | | on December 14, 2023, drawing to a close an exemplary career in |
---|
8 | 8 | | education that has spanned 28 years; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Gonzales began her career as a deaf education |
---|
10 | 10 | | teacher at Deerpark Middle School in August 1995, and she went on to |
---|
11 | 11 | | join the faculty at McNeil High School in 2001; the following year, |
---|
12 | 12 | | she became an admission, review, and dismissal facilitator, and in |
---|
13 | 13 | | 2008, she accepted the position of special education department |
---|
14 | 14 | | chair; she later served as assistant principal and associate |
---|
15 | 15 | | principal at McNeil High before taking on her current role as the |
---|
16 | 16 | | district's executive director of special education; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Along the way, Ms. Gonzales has been involved in |
---|
18 | 18 | | numerous committees and initiatives, including the Secondary |
---|
19 | 19 | | Teaching & Learning Advisory Board, the launch of a dual credit |
---|
20 | 20 | | program for deaf students, and the Texas Deafblind Project; she has |
---|
21 | 21 | | also been active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International |
---|
22 | 22 | | Kappa Lambda Chapter, which she served as president from 2012 to |
---|
23 | 23 | | 2014; among her many achievements, she received a World Class ARD |
---|
24 | 24 | | Facilitator Award in 2005 and a Certificate of Appreciation for |
---|
25 | 25 | | Valuable Contributions During State Assessment in 2008; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Gonzales holds bachelor's and master's degrees |
---|
27 | 27 | | in communications, sciences, and disorders with an emphasis on deaf |
---|
28 | 28 | | education from The University of Texas at Austin; in addition, she |
---|
29 | 29 | | completed the principal certification graduate program in |
---|
30 | 30 | | educational leadership at Texas State University in 2011; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Through her dedication, professionalism, and |
---|
32 | 32 | | commitment to excellence, Marie Gonzales has helped many young |
---|
33 | 33 | | Texans acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and |
---|
34 | 34 | | her contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to |
---|
35 | 35 | | come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Marie |
---|
38 | 38 | | Gonzales on her retirement as the executive director of special |
---|
39 | 39 | | education at Round Rock ISD and extend to her sincere best wishes |
---|
40 | 40 | | for the future; and, be it further |
