44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Marie Gonzales is retiring as the executive director
66 of special education at the Round Rock Independent School District
77 on December 14, 2023, drawing to a close an exemplary career in
88 education that has spanned 28 years; and
99 WHEREAS, Ms. Gonzales began her career as a deaf education
1010 teacher at Deerpark Middle School in August 1995, and she went on to
1111 join the faculty at McNeil High School in 2001; the following year,
1212 she became an admission, review, and dismissal facilitator, and in
1313 2008, she accepted the position of special education department
1414 chair; she later served as assistant principal and associate
1515 principal at McNeil High before taking on her current role as the
1616 district's executive director of special education; and
1717 WHEREAS, Along the way, Ms. Gonzales has been involved in
1818 numerous committees and initiatives, including the Secondary
1919 Teaching & Learning Advisory Board, the launch of a dual credit
2020 program for deaf students, and the Texas Deafblind Project; she has
2121 also been active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
2222 Kappa Lambda Chapter, which she served as president from 2012 to
2323 2014; among her many achievements, she received a World Class ARD
2424 Facilitator Award in 2005 and a Certificate of Appreciation for
2525 Valuable Contributions During State Assessment in 2008; and
2626 WHEREAS, Ms. Gonzales holds bachelor's and master's degrees
2727 in communications, sciences, and disorders with an emphasis on deaf
2828 education from The University of Texas at Austin; in addition, she
2929 completed the principal certification graduate program in
3030 educational leadership at Texas State University in 2011; and
3131 WHEREAS, Through her dedication, professionalism, and
3232 commitment to excellence, Marie Gonzales has helped many young
3333 Texans acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and
3434 her contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to
3535 come; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3737 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Marie
3838 Gonzales on her retirement as the executive director of special
3939 education at Round Rock ISD and extend to her sincere best wishes
4040 for the future; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for Ms. Gonzales as an expression of high regard by the
4343 Texas House of Representatives.
