| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The members of First Christian Church in Alice are |

| 6 | 6 | | gathering on October 8, 2023, to honor their pastor, Elias |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | R. Vasquez, and his wife, Emma Vasquez, for their combined 50 years |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of service in the ministry; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Since professing his faith in 1973, Pastor Vasquez |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | has served the Disciples of Christ Christian Church in area, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | regional, and national administrative roles, which have included |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | presiding over the Southwest Hispanic Convention from 1985 to 1988 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and the National Hispanic Bilingual Fellowship Confraternity from |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1988 to 1989; he worked as a grant administrator for Nueces County |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | before retiring from his secular career to devote himself fully to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the ministry; in 1995, he was licensed as a pastor by the Disciples |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of Christ Christian Church; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, On September 16, 1994, Pastor Vasquez was appointed |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | as senior pastor of First Christian Church in Alice, where he has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | preached for nearly three decades; over the course of his tenure, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the church's congregation has grown more multicultural, and he has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | enjoyed overseeing the development of a thriving children's |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | ministry; along the way, he has benefited immensely from the love |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and support of his wife, Emma Vasquez, who, like her husband, has |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | dedicated herself to the church with a spirit of compassion, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | perseverance, and selfless service; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Through their inspiring faith and leadership, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Pastor Elias R. Vasquez and Emma Vasquez have enhanced the lives of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | countless individuals, and in so doing, they have won the affection |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of their congregation and the esteem of the Alice and Robstown |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Pastor Elias |

| 34 | 34 | | R. Vasquez and Emma Vasquez for their longtime service in the |

| 35 | 35 | | ministry and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
