| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

| 6 | 6 | | a close with the passing of Mark Barry Rogers of Boerne on |

| 7 | 7 | | October 14, 2023, at the age of 70; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Stanley and Judith Rogers, "Buck" Rogers |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on December 16, 1952, and grew up |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | with his siblings, Paul and Jane; he earned his bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | international affairs from the United States Air Force Academy in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 1975; commissioned as a second lieutenant, he was a fighter pilot |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | from 1975 to 2001; he deployed in support of Operations Desert |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Shield and Desert Storm, and while serving as commander of the 492nd |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Fighter Squadron, he flew combat missions in support of Operation |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Deny Flight; he became commander of the 35th Operations Group in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 1996 and attained the rank of colonel before his retirement in 2001; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | he then embarked on a second career with FedEx as a pilot and first |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | officer, flying until 2017; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Mr. Rogers was a member |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of the Kendall County Appraisal District Board and was honored as |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | chair emeritus; he volunteered in support of Boerne ISD schools, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and he was very involved in the Kendall County Republican Party, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | serving in the roles of treasurer, chair, and election judge and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | leading voter registration, outreach, and turnout campaigns; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rogers shared a fulfilling relationship with |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | his wife, Suzie, and he was the proud father of two daughters, Megan |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and Jennifer, and a son, Michael; through the years, the family grew |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | to include his son-in-law, Adam, his daughter-in-law, Jessica, and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | his grandchildren, Emilee, Madeline, Wyatt, Paige, Luke, and Chase; |
|---|

| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, An avid golfer, Mr. Rogers played the game around |

| 33 | 33 | | the world and delighted in reconnecting with friends and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | challenging himself on unfamiliar courses; in addition, he was a |

| 35 | 35 | | voracious reader and an enthusiastic singer, although his military |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | precision did not always extend to the realm of pitch; he |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | appreciated fine wine, a good cigar, and a glass of scotch, and his |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | sense of humor and joie de vivre endeared him to innumerable people; |

|---|
| 40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Buck Rogers has brought great |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | sorrow to all who were privileged to share in the richness of his |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | life, they will continue to find inspiration in his devotion to his |

| 43 | 43 | | family, his community, and his country; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 45 | 45 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
