44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Madison Swain achieved great distinction with her
66 exceptional performance in the 2023 Miss Juneteenth USA Pageant,
77 which took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 14,
88 2023; and
99 WHEREAS, Established in 2020, the National Miss Juneteenth
1010 Scholarship Pageant Program promotes community service, education,
1111 and cultural awareness while celebrating Juneteenth, a holiday
1212 commemorating the end of slavery in the United States; the program
1313 provides African American youth from across the country with the
1414 opportunity to earn scholarship prizes, and the Miss Juneteenth USA
1515 pageant is open to young women ages 15 to 18; and
1616 WHEREAS, Ms. Swain represented Texas at the 2023 Miss
1717 Juneteenth USA Pageant, where she was named first runner-up; she
1818 also took home first place in the talent portion of the contest and
1919 second place for her essay; she was previously crowned
2020 Ms. Juneteenth at the Juneteenth Development Inc. Scholarship Gala
2121 in Galveston County, and over the course of her reign, she has
2222 participated in events such as Galveston's Juneteenth parade, and
2323 she has visited schools and churches to speak with young people; and
2424 WHEREAS, A skilled dancer, Ms. Swain previously served as
2525 colonel of the Stingarette Drill Team at Texas City High School, and
2626 following her graduation, she was recruited by the award-winning
2727 Buccaneers Dance Team at Blinn College in Brenham; she plans to
2828 pursue a career as a dance teacher; and
2929 WHEREAS, Through her participation in the 2023 Miss
3030 Juneteenth USA Pageant, Madison Swain has served as an inspiring
3131 role model and ambassador for the Lone Star State, and it is a
3232 pleasure to honor her for this notable achievement; now, therefore,
3333 be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3535 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Madison Swain
3636 on being named the first runner-up at the 2023 Miss Juneteenth USA
3737 Pageant and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
3838 success; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for Ms. Swain as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4141 House of Representatives.
