44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Mary Kay Walker of Flower Mound is retiring as
66 president of the Seniors in Motion Auxiliary in November 2023,
77 following many years of dedicated service; and
88 WHEREAS, In 2009, when the Town of Flower Mound began the
99 process of establishing a standalone senior center for its Seniors
1010 in Motion program, Mrs. Walker helped create the SIM Auxiliary as a
1111 nonprofit organization and became its founding president; the
1212 community-based group supports Seniors in Motion and purchases
1313 equipment for its programs and its facilities; after outgrowing a
1414 renovated building that once served as the first town hall, SIM
1515 moved into its present-day location in 2015; today, the program has
1616 more than 2,700 members from Flower Mound and surrounding areas;
1717 and
1818 WHEREAS, Mrs. Walker has been active in many other
1919 organizations as well, including the Retired and Senior Volunteer
2020 Program Serving Denton County, and when Texas Health Presbyterian
2121 Hospital Flower Mound opened in 2010, she developed its volunteer
2222 program; she served on the board of Youth and Family Counseling, and
2323 as a member of the town's Parks, Arts, and Library Services Board,
2424 she worked to open the Fort Wildflower recreational area; in
2525 addition, she has served as the longtime treasurer of the Meadows at
2626 Cross Timbers Homeowners Association and as president of the MAGIC
2727 group at First Baptist Church Lewisville; and
2828 WHEREAS, A retired paralegal, Mrs. Walker began volunteering
2929 for Legal Aid for Dallas during her professional life; she enhanced
3030 her expertise in the nonprofit arena by completing the United Way of
3131 Denton County's Project Blueprint: Board Leadership Training, and
3232 she gained certification as a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service
3333 Master Wellness Volunteer; named the 2014 Advocate of the Year by
3434 the Texas Recreation and Park Society North Region Conference, she
3535 received the President's Lifetime Achievement Award from President
3636 Barack Obama and the Corporation for National Community Service in
3737 2016; and
3838 WHEREAS, Mary Kay Walker has enriched the lives of numerous
3939 area residents through her tireless efforts in behalf of the SIM
4040 Auxiliary, and her contributions have earned the admiration and
4141 appreciation of all who are fortunate enough to know her; now,
4242 therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4444 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Mary Kay Walker on
4545 the occasion of her retirement as president of the Seniors in Motion
4646 Auxiliary and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and,
4747 be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for Mrs. Walker as an expression of high regard by the
5050 Texas House of Representatives.
