| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Ashley Jadine Foundation is holding its sixth |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | annual Health Fair and 5K Walk in Missouri City on November 4, 2023, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | providing a fitting opportunity to recognize the organization for |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | its dedicated efforts to prevent suicide among young people; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In 2012, Cheryl Duncan established the foundation in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | loving memory of her daughter, Ashley Jadine Duncan, who tragically |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | died by suicide at the age of 17; the nonprofit strives to raise |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | awareness of the issue of youth suicide, to reverse the stigma of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | mental illness, to promote the responsible use of social media, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | to provide assistance to those affected by suicide; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Suicide is a leading cause of death for individuals |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | ages 15 to 24 as well as college students; approximately every 13 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | minutes, another life is lost to suicide in the United States; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | community involvement and support are key to reducing the incidence |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of suicide among teens and young adults, and through education, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | outreach, community events, scholarships, and other services, the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Ashley Jadine Foundation is equipping citizens with the tools |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | necessary to ensure that those in crisis receive the help they need; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through its tireless efforts, the Ashley Jadine |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Foundation is making a lasting and positive difference in the lives |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of countless youth and families across the Greater Houston area, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing the organization for its |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | myriad contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor the Ashley Jadine |

| 31 | 31 | | Foundation on the occasion of its sixth annual Health Fair and 5K |

| 32 | 32 | | Walk and extend to all those associated with the organization |
