44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Nancy Hanks Ellis has been inducted into the 2023
66 San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame; and
77 WHEREAS, Established in 1984, the San Marcos Women's Hall of
88 Fame has grown to include more than 140 local residents; criteria
99 for selection include performing volunteer work in multiple areas
1010 of service, meeting the needs of the community, demonstrating
1111 initiative, influencing positive change, and going above and beyond
1212 the call of duty; and
1313 WHEREAS, A resident of San Marcos since 1966, Nancy Ellis
1414 served the community throughout her rewarding five-decade career as
1515 an educator, and she continues to seek out opportunities to better
1616 the lives of underserved women and children since retiring; over
1717 the course of nearly 25 years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate,
1818 Ms. Ellis has provided indispensable support to more than 50
1919 children; she has further championed the needs of area children
2020 through her work as a trustee for the San Marcos Consolidated
2121 Independent School District and as one of the longest-serving
2222 members of the San Marcos chapter of PFLAG; and
2323 WHEREAS, Other local organizations that have benefited from
2424 Ms. Ellis's involvement include CHRISTUS Santa Rosa
2525 Hospital-San Marcos, the Hays-Caldwell Women's Center, and the
2626 Hays County Women's Political Caucus; moreover, she has generously
2727 contributed to her congregation at St. Mark's Episcopal Church as a
2828 member of both the School of Wisdom Committee and the handbell
2929 choir; and
3030 WHEREAS, Nancy Ellis has set an inspiring example of
3131 volunteerism and civic leadership, and the citizens of San Marcos
3232 are fortunate indeed to count her among their fellow residents;
3333 now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3535 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Nancy Hanks
3636 Ellis on her induction into the San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame and
3737 extend to her sincere appreciation for her contributions to her
3838 community; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for Ms. Ellis as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4141 House of Representatives.
