5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Hanks Ellis has been inducted into the 2023 |

6 | 6 | | San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame; and |

7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1984, the San Marcos Women's Hall of |
---|
8 | 8 | | Fame has grown to include more than 140 local residents; criteria |
---|
9 | 9 | | for selection include performing volunteer work in multiple areas |
---|
10 | 10 | | of service, meeting the needs of the community, demonstrating |
---|
11 | 11 | | initiative, influencing positive change, and going above and beyond |
---|
12 | 12 | | the call of duty; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A resident of San Marcos since 1966, Nancy Ellis |
---|
14 | 14 | | served the community throughout her rewarding five-decade career as |
---|
15 | 15 | | an educator, and she continues to seek out opportunities to better |
---|
16 | 16 | | the lives of underserved women and children since retiring; over |
---|
17 | 17 | | the course of nearly 25 years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, |
---|
18 | 18 | | Ms. Ellis has provided indispensable support to more than 50 |
---|
19 | 19 | | children; she has further championed the needs of area children |
---|
20 | 20 | | through her work as a trustee for the San Marcos Consolidated |
---|
21 | 21 | | Independent School District and as one of the longest-serving |
---|
22 | 22 | | members of the San Marcos chapter of PFLAG; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Other local organizations that have benefited from |
---|
24 | 24 | | Ms. Ellis's involvement include CHRISTUS Santa Rosa |
---|
25 | 25 | | Hospital-San Marcos, the Hays-Caldwell Women's Center, and the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Hays County Women's Political Caucus; moreover, she has generously |
---|
27 | 27 | | contributed to her congregation at St. Mark's Episcopal Church as a |
---|
28 | 28 | | member of both the School of Wisdom Committee and the handbell |
---|
29 | 29 | | choir; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Ellis has set an inspiring example of |

31 | 31 | | volunteerism and civic leadership, and the citizens of San Marcos |
---|
32 | 32 | | are fortunate indeed to count her among their fellow residents; |

34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

35 | 35 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Nancy Hanks |
