| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mittie Miller has been inducted into the 2023 |

| 6 | 6 | | San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame; and |

| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1984, the San Marcos Women's Hall of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Fame has grown to include more than 140 local residents; criteria |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | for selection include performing volunteer work in multiple areas |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of service, meeting the needs of the community, demonstrating |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | initiative, influencing positive change, and going above and beyond |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the call of duty; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mittie Miller has worked tirelessly to foster unity, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | empowerment, and opportunity within the city's Black community; a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | resident of San Marcos since 1965, she has championed social and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | economic advancement as a member of the boards of numerous |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | organizations; she was vice chair of the San Marcos Housing |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Authority Board of Commissioners, and for many years, she was a San |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Marcos Chamber of Commerce ambassador; through her service on the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | board of Hands of Hope, a volunteer-run ministry, she facilitated |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the teaching of job and life skills to undereducated women in Hays |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | County; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to revitalizing the Dunbar Historic |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | District, Ms. Miller has been an active organizer and volunteer for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | events benefiting the Dunbar Heritage Association; she has given |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | generously of her time and talents in behalf of the Harvey Miller |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Day of Service, Juneteenth, Black History Month, Kwanzaa, and the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | MLK March; moreover, she has increased awareness and appreciation |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of Black culture through numerous endeavors, even making time to |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | coordinate a line dance class; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Mittie Miller has set an inspiring example of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | volunteerism and civic leadership, and the citizens of San Marcos |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | are fortunate indeed to count her among their fellow residents; |

| 34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Mittie Miller |

| 37 | 37 | | on her induction into the San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame and extend |

| 38 | 38 | | to her sincere appreciation for her contributions to her community; |
