5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Peterson Earls has been inducted into the 2023 |
---|
6 | 6 | | San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1984, the San Marcos Women's Hall of |
---|
8 | 8 | | Fame has grown to include more than 140 local residents; criteria |
---|
9 | 9 | | for selection include performing volunteer work in multiple areas |
---|
10 | 10 | | of service, meeting the needs of the community, demonstrating |
---|
11 | 11 | | initiative, influencing positive change, and going above and beyond |
---|
12 | 12 | | the call of duty; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of San Marcos, Ms. Earls has |
---|
14 | 14 | | dedicated herself to improving the overall quality of life in the |
---|
15 | 15 | | community and to helping those in need through her extensive |
---|
16 | 16 | | volunteer efforts; she has given generously of her time and talents |
---|
17 | 17 | | to a number of groups, including the Bluebonnet Lions Club, the Hays |
---|
18 | 18 | | County Crime Stoppers board of directors, and the City of San Marcos |
---|
19 | 19 | | Human Services Advisory Board, and as the first African American |
---|
20 | 20 | | president of the League of Women Voters of Hays County, she |
---|
21 | 21 | | advocated for voters' rights, endorsed scholarships that were |
---|
22 | 22 | | awarded to students with disabilities, and worked tirelessly to |
---|
23 | 23 | | ensure that citizens were educated on the importance of voting and |
---|
24 | 24 | | civic engagement; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Earls has also provided invaluable support to |
---|
26 | 26 | | numerous children as a court appointed special advocate, and she |
---|
27 | 27 | | has further benefited area youth through her service on the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Nosotros La Gente board of directors; moreover, she has encouraged |
---|
29 | 29 | | children to stay connected to their cultural history as a board |
---|
30 | 30 | | member for Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Mary Peterson Earls has set an inspiring example of |
---|
32 | 32 | | volunteerism and civic leadership, and the citizens of San Marcos |
---|
33 | 33 | | are fortunate indeed to count her among their fellow residents; |
---|
34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Mary Peterson |

37 | 37 | | Earls on her induction into the San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame and |

38 | 38 | | extend to her sincere appreciation for her contributions to her |
